I heard yesterday in an interview of the PM, I think he answered regarding the independence question, yes I would support the SNP having a vote for Independence, However if it was a yes vote then we would have to give the vote to the whole of the UK, England, Wales and Ireland before we could break up the UK. Well I've never heard that before, is that why Cameron feels so cocky about supporting an SNP vote? Whether we voted yes or no, it is only a Scottish issue, not a vote for the rest of the UK surely? Where would it end? Asking the EU to vote next? Cameron should keep out of this, let Mr.Salmond do his best for Scotland and let the Scottish people decide for themselves. Feckin tories. I can see this being Cameron's equivalent of the tories' completely undemocratic 40% rule back in 79: a sneaky wee underhand spoiler that they clung to to totally undermine the true outcome of the referendum. Salmond is smarter than Cameron. Westminster is surrounded by discontents on all sides. The will to power is stronger now that it was then. Cameron has not got a leg to stand on. Scottish independence is NO-ONE else's business but Scotland's - no matter what London or anybody else thinks. If they try to deny us what we want, we're gonna do it anyway. They can not - and they will not - stop us.

I sincerely hope you are correct my friend. Scotland has the ability to stand on her own. We have wonderful people and whether England like it or not, we are a different nation.

I suspect the consequences of what's now a real prospect of independence are finally starting to dawn on our friends south of the border. There's clearly an anti-Scottish faction among the English who believe they "subsidise" us, the poor neighbours. The type that look suspiciously at our banknotes and pretend they don't understand what we're saying. And there's also a faction who look to how Scotland operates as a socially responsible, ambitious country and may well start their own revolt because they don't get free scrips, free education, bus travel, personal care for the elderly etc. Either way, it's not UP to them. It's up to us. And Eck will not make the case for full independence until he proves to us that it's doable, sustainable and beneficial. We have a way to go. Slow and steady wins the race. ;D

If I were a politician and knew I was honest and doing the best I could to do the best I could, I wouldnae be answering rude or cheeky letters fae embdy - satisfactorily or otherwise! I think Salmond has a totally different attitude to Europe than does Westminster and therefore he will make a far better fist of negotiating with Brussels in Scotland's favour than anyone in a London cabinet ever has. Don't you agree?

I agree with that and in fairness, the way Mr Salmond has been negotiating with England so far shows he has ability and hopefully if we do get self determination, he will do the same good job for us.

Alex to meet UK cabinet.... Gerrintaethum Eck! www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-13484235"...In his first meeting on Monday, Mr Salmond will emphasise the importance of North Sea oil for jobs and investment in Scotland. This year the Treasury is set to rake in an all-time record £13.4bn in North Sea revenues - £2,700 for every man, woman and child in Scotland," he said." Jaggy jaggy thorn in their sides.... ;D

Whit Ah poastit westie wis jist a ruff synopsis o whit Ah asked...Ah wis polite an wisny cheeky but the reply Ah got wis just a loada waffle regardin the potential situation There's a lot goin on, there are no cut and dried answers to anything yet. Even the SNP didnae expect the election result they got. There's a lot to deal with. Gie them a chance. They'll get there. It's clear they are at least listening, and are anxious to have the will of the people - and the best interests of Scotland - at the forefront of everything they do. And they will make a better fist of Europe than any London cabinet - of course they will. Don't you agree? Ooh, touchy!! (What's "RL"?)

To be fair, I don't know an awful lot about Europe as a modern political and economic entity. But... (as a regular watcher of Eorpa which is the best current affairs prog on BBC Scotland) aren't there a lot of small independent countries who have benefitted from membership, while Scotland's interests as part of the UK have been largely shafted...?

As ye say we had no really a say and look whit has happened to our fishing industry and is still happening along wi aw the ither petty regulation whit affects us aw in oor daily lives and is no realy relivint tae oor circumstances the wan size fits aw EU beaurocratic wey o looking at things...

Heidie I agree with you about Europe, however if we were independent, we could be a trading partner without having to join and in my opinion we would be much better off trading again with our old Commonwealth friends as we have much more in common with them than some Romanian or Albanian. I mean do we need more Romany big issue sellers or Albanian Ponces and drug dealers? I think we have enough of our own frankly.
