Not only them A Few years ago a young Scottish couple decided to go to Sydney for their honeymoon. Being Scottish they hunted round for c heap tickets, needless to say. They got a real bargain They were somewhat discomfited when they arrived at Sydney Nova Scotia, they did wonder why they were going via Canada. Sydney NS is hardly a world class tourist destination, mostly a fishing & mining town. Every cloud has silver lining the locals heard the sad story and really pushed out the boat for them!!!!! They had an unforgettable honeymoon . They had a ball.

Well what do you expect if you are thick, stupid and ignorant?
I've no sympathy for them in the slightest, did tehy not check when buying or even after they received their ttickets what the departure point was?
They obviously looked at their ticket to see what time the flight left.
American Airlines do fly from the UK to points west.

It's funny but sad too but it appears not the first time that this sort of mistake has happened.
Nota, people make mistakes, it happens to the best of us but doesn't necessarily mean we are thick, stupid or ignorant, it just highlights our humanity!

There would have been many opperchancities to verify the information presented as being correct, throughout the whole ticketing process. Booking an airline ticket is an involved affair, you just don't type in Birmingham and leave it at that, it asks you what Birmingham to start with and presents options, you then have to verify that you ave put in the correct details a couple of times. For example if you type in glasgow, it presents a list of glasgows to choose from, all differentiated by their airport abbreviation and country too. A mistake is getting aff the train at greenock central instead of greenock west, despite having a ticket to greenock west.

Yeah, I kinda felt for them too. I'd imagine on seeing such a bargain price flight you'd be kind of over-eager to go clicky-clicky to secure it. And not everyone's as internet-sussed as others, after all. This from the person that pre-internet, tour managed an entire band and crew to the wrong airport in Washington, having not quite read the departure airport details on the tickets in enough detail. I took them to National instead of Dulles. Fortunately the credit card (and capacity!) was good for us all on the next National flight out to NYC, where we were gigging that very night. We just made it And MOST fortunately, everyone saw the funny side, and didn't dock my wages accordingly

I've looked at a few air ticket booking sites just now, when you put in Birmingham as your departure point, it gives Birmingham UK as the first option on all the sites I tried ( not just uk based sites)

She is blonde, ditzy and does a good impression of the lights being but nobody's home. She'll never ever live it down

This goes back a long way perhaps 40 years
a BEA flight had just landed at Frankfurt and the pilot had stopped to check airport map for correct Taxiway
Frankfurt Control: " Speed bird 15 Do not stop Proceed immediately to taxiway Romeo"
Speed bird: "Sorry was checking location of Taxiway Romeo"
Control: "you should have checked earlier you have not been to Frankfurt before?"
Speed Bird: "Twice in 1944 but it was dark & we didnt land"

Nother one from way back for Rolo in particular
St Pauls Minnesota Airport cold winters day with gusting cross wind and flurries of snow. Traffic being held up so planes queued on taxiway waiting turn to take off with bored pilots watching take offs and landings and listening to ATC (Air Traffic Control) while waiting.
An old stretched DC8 freighter with a lady captain was coming in and was being buffetted around in the cross winds and having a difficult time getting it right. She pulled off a very credible landing and as she headed for the gate when a very bored drawling voice from a pilot of a waiting plane came on the air saying "Yeahhhh but can she park it!"

Sounds like my uncle Larry Reeves, erstwhile old-school captain on Air Canada! I do recall a difficult approach to Minneapolis-St Pauls one November morning many years ago. I was never so glad to see that big beautiful arch when we finally got under the cloud/sleet/hail. We were playing Prince's club that night. He never showed; BSTRD! hahahahaaaaaa!
