Fanbloodytastic, good on ya! What's it like there (apart from being a tad warmer than here...)? Remind me: Madeira, is it more Spanish than Portuguese or the other way about? I'm thinking Portuguese, given close proximity to the Azores, where my dad was stationed in the RAF 1942-ish. But not *that* far from the Canaries, which are of course, Spanish. Tell us more, and send pics!

It's rather quiet, not because its empty, but because it seems rather douce, restrained, at ease with itself, civilised It was either Reids or this place, the vine hotel, plumped for it as it was in the centre. We were aboot the youngest folk on the flight, it was like oing on holiday wae ma parents As soon as the fasten safety belts sign went aff, it was a constant queue furra lavvies, it seemed like the same folk all the time.

Sampled any madeira yet, Nota? Excellent that you and Mrs Nota-- and Bormes and Mrs Bormes-- are warming yer bones in the heat: it's been a long, dark winter (they seem to get longer and darker, maybe just my advancing years talking ) and just turned colder again here these past couple days, struggling at single figures...again. If I was First Minister I'd make a week's winter holiday compulsory for all Scots!

If I was First Minister I'd make a week's winter holiday compulsory for all Scots! Yeah the hotel put on a tasting session, it reminded me of eldorado ( dark and clear ) fortified wine, or as its known in inverclyde " a bottle of who the fuck you lookin at " Ok as an aperitif but I couldnae drink a lot of it. The local table wines are very good, the local beer (coral) is excellent too, but not as good as freezing mojitos.....hmmmmmmm Still very much a place for the older folks at this time of the year, even the cruise ships that stop in are full of them from across the globe. But the lcal pensioners are just like those back home, sun beating down and they are still cutting aboot in their jumpers, scarves and duvet jaikets zipped right up, obviously using hat auld Scottish maxim - never cast a cloot until May is oot Socks and sandals seem to be de riguer too.......... Food is excellent and e prices are tremendous, even if the exchange rate was one to one the value for money would be tremendous, 45 euros gets you to sirloin steak dinners with all the trimmings and a few drinks too. Even in the supermarket food is much cheaper than here, even with vat at 22%

I keep promising maself a winter break in the sun, never quite get around to actually booking one, cos Dec and Jan go a bit mental workwise for me and Mr R... I console myself with the thought of how utterly shit it must feel landing back here after being in sane temperatures for a week or two....I guess the hot tub's the perfect antidote, along with the fizz though. And post up yer 80's clips, that's a whole thread that'd go down helluva well hereaboots!
