I would rather all were screened prior to boarding on any flight I am travelling on.. Same as I dont mind delays. I would rather they checked out things properly rather than take short cuts. Slightly off subject. The actress who played June whatever in "The Bill" was out here recently and was interviewed on TV. She said she got to customs and a Customs Officer said "C'mon through June we know you're clean". Such is fame Cat stevens ra singer , whose now known as Yousef Islam (since ra mid 1970s) was refused entry tae ra USA efter 9/11 - he has a beard June hasnt got a beard ..... That could explain it.

The mind boggles.

Yeah, and he's said many inflamatory things. Now he has actually said he was joking when he said he supported the fatwa against Salman Rushdie.

In some ways ah suppose supportin a fatwa disnae mean much, as the same happens in maist relijins, blasphemers wull be struck doon etc etc etc Carryin oot the actual fatwa is a diffrint kettle of fish indeed.

Its a pity that "ra Authorities" cant use profiling to screen passengers. They would rather be dead than be seen to be non PC

Yep. If it was half the world would be in jail. On the other hand, the law might be able to spot him more easily. Like calls to like, as it were.

No, but he did look like the moslem bogey man karakerchoor Some might even say he looks helluva like bible illustrations of thon Jesus as well . So just how dangerous is Cat Stevens? Like is he carrying concealed bombs in his geetar or what? He may have said a few less than sensible things but hey, he's an artist and we all know what they're like Yeah Peony, there was an underpants bomber and a shoe bomber. But they were so amateur in their attempts they got caught. And even if you add those two failed attempts to the two successful attempts to blow planes out of the sky---we're still talking a tiny tiny wee percentage of potential harm to the millions that take to the skies every month. 25/7 news coverage and terrorist organisations together make their living from keeping us in fear and I, like Nota, am having none of it. The supposed 'threat' level never has and never will keep me from flying. Only Michael O Leary would achieve that....

It doesn't keep me from flying either, Rolo, but I don't think that equates to no risk.
Also I don't think there is any difference for passengers between internation flights and domestic flights. The differences must be for the carriers.

Me neither but by the same token if we can persuade the bastards that they have little chance of of doing it so much the better. Mind you my frequent long haul flying is past Now only occassional intra state flight (& thats only when I cant think of an excuse quick enough to convince Keng) or up to Queensland on Hols

I think you're right about differing needs between carriers, Peony--I fly a fair bit within Europe and there are widely varying requirements depending on which airline/airport you're using. It's been a while since I was in the US so do you mind if I ask you whether you have to produce a passport when flying within the US these days?

No passport, just picture ID. I'm not sure what it would be for someone on a visa, though. You do have to have a passport to reenter from Canada or Mexico.

Couple of months back leaving Scotland for Spain; all liquids decanted down to 100ml bottles (handily on sale at departure) contents of makeup bag decanted into clear plastic bag (handily on sale at departure) removal of shoes at security point full body pat down (ooer missus ) random search of previously scanned hand baggage and on the way back, with the same carrier; NONE of the above. You kinda have to ask yourself why the variation?
