Just as well I don't take the car to w*rk then, cos there's an M*S raspberry and sherry trifle in the fridge with MY NAME on it. Seriously though, I take your point, Nota and Bormes BUT shirley if we were to 'aim' for a nil limit it would encourage most not to footer around trying to figure out the 'nonsense' system. Such an inexact science. At least then if folks had a tiny wee alcohol reading it'd be better than the scenario as it is now? Whaddya think?

Personally I am absolutely aghast at the poor standard of driving I see constantly around the place and the utter contempt motorists have for the overtaking lane, they think it is a lane to cruise on all. The time, they cause accidents!! I have no issuewiththedrink limit being very small, small enough that not even a pint would be allowed providing that the small amounts generated with sweets and naturally occurring do not show, however MOST drink driving accidents are automatically blamed on any person even though they were stopped and someone ran into the back of them, which personally I disagree with. I know of a bus driver who lost his license in an early morning accident when exactly that happened, he stopped at the lights at Canniesburn and someone ran into his rear, the woman called the police as she claimed she smelled drink, he did fail the test as he had been out the night before now fair enough he should be fined but so should she, the insurance company blamed him completely claiming he should not have been on the road. I am not defending him, I am showing how the press hysteria is out in force when a drunk does kill someone, even if drink had no contribution at all. All this stuff about it impairing people may be correct, however there are. Situations where the other party is totally in the wrong yet if one is over the limit even by a tiny amount and the amounts are so tiny now, I do not think they do impair one. I would much rather have more people prosecuted for BAD driving. Cameras are everywhere, we are told for dangerous speeding!! Rubbish, they are speculative tax earners. If they want safety, put a camera at every junction with traffic lights and you will soon see a reduction in accidents immediately. Motoring is still the big earner for Governments and so easy for them too. We pay far far too much for our fuel and road tax and insurance we are being ripped off and it will only get worse. Look what has been done to Byres road now, try to get an emergency vehicle down there in a hurry, no chance.

Here the limit is roughly 3 half pints* of beer in first hour then half pint of beer per hour thereafter, our standard beer is average 5% alcohol by volume.
Regarding drivers hogging the fast lane in UK. Here the law was, at that time, that you must keep drive within a lane. So when driving up M6 in our motor home on last trip to UK I came up on a guy in low powered buzz box in the fast lane doing well under the limit. Without thinking I switched lanes and passed him on the inside, perfectly legal here. Gees you would have thought I had committed a cardinal sin the guy blowing his horn flashing his headlights and generally having a temper tantrum and spitting the dummy, last seen in my mirrors was him still cruising in the fast lane at a slow speed.
*Generally we serve beers in half pints 10 fl oz glasses (middies in NSW, pots in VIC and Qld) The beer doesnt stay cold long enough to drink pints though a lot of people here drink 15 fl oz beers (schooners). The standard beer in Qld is a 7 fl oz gass (pony) . A fresh glass with every drink with the glass brought out of the cooler.
BTW Fosters is seldom drunk here

I was thinking of a half pint as the maximum over here. Regards the OVERTAKING lane, it is STILL like that with ignorant stupid dangerous fools hogging that lane. En route to the channel tunnel it is almost impossible to do more that 60mph in any lane and an average speed is around 38/48 mph for the journey from Birmingham to the tunnel !!

as an aside we dont refer to distances here in miles(or kilometres) we refer to them in hours eg Brisbane is about 10 -11 hours from Sydney just under 600 miles

Someone else who knows it correctly as the "overtaking lane" We drive on the left here, people seem to forget that when overtaking the Highway Code states that one must return to the left hand lane
