In your first one you can see some of the posts from the old timber ponds - were they used to store logs for shipbuilding an export - if you go up river a bit you'll see large poles with big ? on the top - these are in memory of George Wylie of paper boat, straw locomotive fame. In your photie of the pier/jetty - this is actually the old pier from Lamonts shipyard ( they built and repaired ships) that used to be there before - Newark Castle was in between two shipyards Fergusons which is still in existence and the afore mentioned Lamonts Fergusons still builds ships, you should get yourself along to a launch, they are open to the public - I couldhelp you out if you have any queries there as one of my friends is the yard manager Have you managed to get any photies of Scotts drydock - its next to the T-Mobile/EE call centre - right across from the main Cigna office. It's the oldest dry-dock in the world and has been left to fall into a state of disrepair There are moves afoot again to put an Oberon class submarine into it - HMS Onyx which is currently lying at Rosneath waiting to be scrapped Not got to the dry dock yet Nota. It would be great to go t a launch. Timber ponds, no prob. ? ? Here we all are at the Yehudi Menuhin concert hall in Bern. Some lovely Swiss people welcomed us with a musical interlude of alp-horns and a display of traditional flag-throwing, accompanied by some very impressive yodelling. Marvellous stuff. We all felt for the lady who kept dropping her flag. She got an extra-special round of applause at the end. Attachments:

Couple of days ago off Freshwater beach just North of the harbour entrance about 100 yards off shore National wildlife guy lectured surfers on keeping clear of whales. Got a excellent reply from a surfer "yeah dont tell us tell him to keep clear us us we are an endandered species" Apparently the whales were curious and watched the surfers for a while before continuing North. They are Southern Wright whales about 60 tonnes ave surfer is about 80-90kg Am trying to find pic taken underwater with the whale having its tail on the bottom and its head out the water. Thats how close in they were Nope but here is Video news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2014/06/29/15/55/whale-swims-near-surfers-in-sydneyYou can see how shallow it is ... see his shadow on the bottom PS the video clip following the one on whales is reputed to be a fake

Cheers There were ( again) some mad notions to stick an oberon sub in there a few weeks ago - came to nothing thankfully - we don't need another white elephant Much better to stick a bigger boat in it - one that people can actually go on and see whats what

Sir Hank,
Your photography is consistently brilliant. What a talent you have. If only working purely in the arts paid the mortgage and bills, eh?

It's been in a state of disrepair for about 20+ years now, as I mentioned earlier the second oldest Drydock s just along the road, they could fill the one in the pictures in and still have the oldest.

A question for Oz;
Would you be happy to have nuclear submarines based within 30 miles of your lovely Sydney suburb?
