From the Herald again....
Someone wondering at march past of countries - Queenie was sitting there going: "Had that. Lost it. Sold it. Gave it away. Didn't want it anyway."

The decision to block the red arras using just blue n white smoke just seems really quite petty - what I find laughable thouigh is the UK government trying to make it a positive thing - weird! Pumeza Matshikiza singing Freedom Come All Ye - was magical - must have made the unionists cringe n squirm - as its a candidate for oor new national anthem - wonderful song for virtually any context. She got interviewed on radio hootsmon yesterday - wonderful girl As an aside ( and very close to the hearts of a couple of folks on here) the same programme had a wee feature on best places to eat in glasgow - the girl waxed lyrically about a place she loved and how much it meant to her but its gone now and how she misses it - Grosvenor Cafe in Ashton Lane The camera angles for the dancin teacakes Scottish montage spoiled it a bit - john barrowman was cringeworthy - but then again ah cannae stick him anytime - does Scotland have a decent song n dance man nowadays? Rod Stewart - pish - Deacon Blue singing Dignity would have been great and in context, RunRig would have been fantastic for that sort a show tae Susan Boyle - ah struggle to condone any criticism in the slightest of Susan at any time, not really my cup of tea as an entertainer, but the lassie has achieved so much considering her background and is happy to keep her feet well and truly planted on the ground - a real national treasure But teh biggest highlight was surely Queen Lizzie getting a standing ovation and cheered at Parkheid, god save teh queen being sung loudly and red white n blue from teh red arras over the stadium - ye couldnae make it up - hilarious[/quote] Totally agree about Freedom Come All Ye, Nota. Definitely a contender for national anthem. I missed the wee insert about places to eat, dammit. But how BLOODY BRILLIANT a billion people worldwide heard that...*certain people* around this wee forum are an indelible part of Glasgow life and much loved for their generosity and hospitality. They deserve a gold medal themselves, if you ask me! Also agree with you re Susan. Who cares that she forgot a couple of words. She was standing there, singing live, watched by billions with no back up, all alone on a huge global stage. RESPECT.

Day Three; I've never seen anything like this in Glasgow in my lifetime. It is such a JOY to be around and about in such a fantastic atmosphere. I have a rare couple of hours off so catching up with the sport on TV. What's with our swimmers, they're bloody amazing! I was nearly blubbing there when Dan Wallace won gold, his family had sold their house to fund his training in Florida. And how brilliant to see a standing ovation for the girl who had lost two lower limbs but competed anyway, taking on the best of the Commonwealth. She came in last. But what a winner. Wean and a bunch of her mates were out clubbing last night: the boys apparently disconcerted at the girls being asked up to dance by a cross-nation delegation of weightlifters. LOL! And I believe there's no truth whatsoever in the rumour that Usain Bolt was down the Polo Club..

Once more your kindness shows through rolo, I know the people you mentioned and I assure you they would bo so humbly honoured by what you say on here. How kind. I agree with you about the Games so far. The boxing has had a couple of strange decisions, however thank goodness the headguards are off now!!

Another thing I like about the Games being here: Many streets pedestrianised and there are severe parking restrictions throughout city centre so therefore far more lanes dedicated to moving transport. AND folks get to stroll about without worrying about traffic, it's all very calm and relaxed somehow and very family friendly. It usually takes me 40 mins on the bus to town but it's about half that this weather. Extra public transport's been laid on and people are using it. Lightbulb moment? I think we should keep it this way! The City seems to be functioning perfectly well without the thousands of cars that people have been manipulated into thinking are essential.....

The radio show's reviewer of eating establishments gave the Grosvenor a reverential review any establishment would love, far beyond what the current establishments being reviewed were getting - not only that she sounded sincere too. Shows the esteem the place was held in. It was on Bryan Burnett's magazine show on thursday @ 10:30 ish - sorry cannae remember the lassie reviewers name

Hey, thanks for passing that on, Oz People here are doing their best, if that's not good enough for the highly-sophisticatit upthemselves and even maybe paranoid hacks of the SMH, too fecking bad. Who knows what the volunteers were discussing? It might have been Indyref politics or rude people or the Israeli Government. But that those and such as those thought it was ALL ABOUT THEM tells you something Dead sad that this is what passes for journalism in Australia

So today, Day Four or possibly Five...it's all becoming a blur.. Nicky Benedetti excelled her excellent self in the Classical Marathon at the Concert Hall as part of the cultural programme around the Games. She played four gigs with four different Scottish orchestras between 2pm and 8pm. I've never seen audiences like it, literally thousands (about 4 or 5 I think) in and out of the hall today. Me and my team were on duty in the foyer from 10 till 10, completely overwhelmed with enquiries and the long queues to buy CDs of all the four orchestras and Nicky herself. I then swung by the (at last!) stunningly refurbished Kelvingrove Bandstand to see Roddy Hart and the Lonesome Fire (and Mr Rolo, on outfront sound)...great band in a stunning setting. To my amusement, due to enhanced security procedures around all the venues, me and Mr R's dinner was confiscated at the entrance. (Such are our silly hours just now, I'd fired by a supermarket near the Concert Hall and purloined a ready meal for 2 and a bottle of Rose) Deeply decent G4s guys kept my *contraband* safe till the end of the night, then wound me up by pretending to have lost the bottle of rose, hiccupping all the while. Bstrds! At least they didn't scan my sandals...

Excellent! On cycling generally: I was a bit sceptical at the introduction of bike stations all over Glasgow this past couple of months. How wrong can you get. Almost every one I pass daily is empty--and not cos they've been *purloined* Folks on rented bikes all over town! Re my previous post about traffic, I'm more and more in favour of banning cars from centre of town and pedestrianising more streets permanently. Attachments:
