Apparently the Portugese Police and the Met are digging up areas in the Algarve looking for the weans body. I would have thought there must be very good reason information or such for this to happen? Hope they find her and maybe even who did it? Even better.

You'd think there'd have to be some evidence, yeah, Bormes.
Several reports in the news from locals who say the locale was one of the first to be searched at the time.
I'm totally on the fence on this *development* myself. On the one hand, if there's new evidence that solves this case once and for all, that has to be some kind of progress.
On the other, if you were cynical, you might say this mega-expensive search, paid for via UK taxpayer, could be seen as a bit of a red herring-- to justify the efforts.
Somebody knows. Somebody's always known. And frankly nothing would surprise me in this case. You?

It does seem like a bit of a flag flying operation - especially now that the better weather and the holiday season is here, wouldn't want to be doing all that out in the sun stuff when the weather may be a wee bit inclement. As for whodunnit.............they do say that most crimes such as this appears to be are done by people known to the victim

As I mentioned before the Net is full of this. Regards the search I would be disgusted if this is not a serious move and nothing comes of it. I know that many senior Police in the UK DO think a family member is involved in the hiding of her body although no one thinks she was deliberately killed! I am informed.

Hard to know what to make of the prominence this is getting in the press. You wonder if it's face saving to explain the expense or if they really know something. Saw a documentary the other night about how the Fund was used to pay some chancer Halligen, not his real name, to carry out a private investigation. Members of the team he employed blew the whistle on him.
It's all too strange, this whole shebang.
That poor wee girl.

That poor wee girl. i missed that unfortunately - did they explain anything about how the fund operated - you may know its not a registered charity but an actual business. Less transparent and less scrutiny. For example if it was a charity, it wouldnt be allowed to pay the mortgage payments for mr `& mrs mccann.

it was a documentary that didn't feature anyone from the McCann camp. just reported that the chancer Halligen had ripped the fund for a million quid.
I've not heard if there's been any further progress in the current investigation, have you?

I would NOT be surprised if "evidence" appears that points the finger AWAY from the pair of TWUNTS and points at someone who is dead already and can't answer back, perhaps a convicted "fiddler" or some such nonsense!!

I read in the local Catalan news yesterday that the Met quit the pretence of digging on waste ground yesterday but continue to insist they are making progress with their investigation and will be moving the digging to other sites in the area.
Ah, OK. Remind me, HOW much is this Met investigation costing us? While the fund that people contributed to in good faith was squandered on employing some chancer called Kevin Halligen who ripped it for a million quid? The public fund was also used to pay the mortgage of two DOCTORS, one an eminent surgeon, the other a GP. Very very odd behaviour altogether.
It was also reported here that local residents of Praia de Luz are increasingly irritated by the news coverage of "nothing actually happening' and someone had spraypainted a message on a wall to the effect: "Everyone knows the parents did it, stupid English police!" Jury's out on that of course.
But locals are objecting to the continuing bad publicity for the area. I don't blame them. Tourism's their livelihood after all.

Its costing millions - apparently the next off-shore investigations will be in the Costas ( all of them), the Greek Islands, west indies, Seychelles, Orlando, Dubai and other such places during the summer holidays - some places are being kept until later in the year to make the most of the autumn sunshine I don't blame the locals for being mightily pissed off, they have to endure the constant attention of the likes of, as you say, tv crews setup to report nothing much and teh likes of teh DAily Mail publishing pictures of a polis man on his radio - with caption saying policeman talking on his radio - just in case no one realised

Another interesting wee point, the Police officer in charge has "Previous" behaviour "irregularities" Or another way of putting it, He is a lying cheating Twunt and should have been sacked years ago during the Dando investigation, sorry, the "Fitting up" of Barry George, the poor soul whom. This Police Officer convinced a jury Barry George was the guilty party. I was slightly involved in this particular investigation, I have in a few shooting incidents given "expert witness" testimony. I have to say the evidence against George on a particular point was absolutely a lie, however that was then omitted during the summing up at the trial. It was a disgrace and the security services knew all along who ordered the killing although they probably did not know immediately who the actual killer was.

Whaaat?
How's it possible an officer who was prepared to frame an innocent, mentally ill person allowed to remain in the force, never mind head up this multiple million pound farce of an investigation?
We are being taken for fools by the McCann and Met PR machine. I can't think of ANY other case that's had this much attention or budget with precisely no outcome.

Or an even more sinister reason Nota, although you are correct about her, she was promoted and moved sideways into a non job!! Keeps her pension and her mouth shut!!

Aruba took a hell of a hit on it's tourism when that young American girl was killed by Joran van der Sloot. He, of course, got away with it. He did go free and killed a young woman in Peru.
I always thought that Aruba and the Dutch government deserved all the ridicule they got over that.
