Much the same here but without the Supermarkets having food banks. The food is needed but is collected differently as are toys for needy kids. The local Charity Vans go round bakeries and and supermarkets picking up (given) "best before" stuff most nights. The one saving thing is here is the weather it wont kill you so quickly Used to be the case here too, Oz, that businesses would be able to donate the days unsold goods to those in need. Not so now, in recent years, health and safety exec have decreed that it's demeaning and unsafe as it's impossible to tell, apparently, that the foods been kept in sanitary conditions. So much food waste in the West, it's criminal I think. The food banks give instructions about what best to donate. Tinned goods, dried pasta/rice!, stuff in jars, twangs, coffee, dried pulses for soup,. Hand to mouth stuff. Fresh fruit, veg, protein would be so much better but h and snwont allow it. Fear of being used I think.

Its the "best Before" stuff. Its done properly. The "use By" stuff is put into a locked skip to stop people stealing it. Its an open secret that at least one big store dumps its stuff at closing time and more often than nor forgets to padlock it..... The security guard does that much later on his rounds. The Yuck stuff is put in a different skip My Fiend Vian used to say on a slow day "well its a good day for the Sallys" Here they ask for tinned goods and sealed packets. Its disgusting they need On the other hand our local derro at the office (he slept in office block entry and kept his belongings in the cleaner's room) told me he wanted nothing to do with welfare, they might find out who he was and he wouldnt like that at all. He said the cops did keep an eye on and even organisised an ambulance for him when he took ill I think he did ok from the local shop owners regarding tucker My office was in the Burbs about 3 miles North of Harbour Bridge

Black Friday's one US import we can well do without, have you SEEN the terrible scenes from the UK today? Bejasus. People so desperate/greedy that they knock others to the ground in pursuit of a £50 discount on a bloody TV. OK, we all KNOW consumer goods in the UK are WAY overpriced and that wages haven't even begun to keep pace with inflation these past 6 years or more. If retailers were to charge REASONABLE, AFFORDABLE prices all year round, people WILL buy. But right now, people are canny and DON'T generally buy, playing the waiting-game for everything to be reduced pre-Christmas. Getting better value for your hard-earned = great and bloody sensible. But assaulting others by pushing and shoving them to the ground is just NOT ok. Is it SAVAGES we are now?
