It's been 40 odd years since we've had such defined seasons here in Scotland, Oz, by my memory anyway.
This past couple of years we've had the harsh winters I remember from childhood followed by exceptional springs (and this year's is something else ;D) followed by better brighter summers.
For a while there it seemed all the seasons merged into one; most often grey, wet and mild with no extreme highs or lows.
To be honest I prefer having distinct seasons. The trees and hardy plants are, as Westie says, just busting out all over, it's a joy.

La Nina has certainly kicked in here..... Wettest April for 12 years & coldest too. I can vouch for both , am growing webs between toes & am wearing a sweater & long trousers in the evenings. Usually not till mid June Our plants are at least 4 -6 weeks behind this year due to cool summer. Looks like Magnolia wont flower this year at all BRRRRRRR Mrs Oz is wondering if she can get her £10 back. 11.00am and only 19C

Today the wean and I were sat in our favourite perch at Atrium in the WE; being true Scots we'd gone out dressed in layers of sweats, jeans, t shirts and socks but come 3pm it was easily 25c out on the terrace. I tell you, if Scotland keeps up with this kind of weather--proper predictable seasons---I might rethink my semi-retirement to Spain. I blame Eck ;D ;D ;D

Jim on the Beechgrove Garden and on Radio Scotland's Potting Shed has made the very salient point recently that Scotland's gardeners have been livin in a fool's paradise in recent decades - they've been gettin away with growing plants that have no business being grown in Scotland.... his postbag is full of folk bewailing the death of much loved plants that were doing okay until the last two winters.
