Friends,
Very sad to have to announce the death of heidie.
Longtime contributor to this and other Scottish forums. He had suffered badly with his health for a long time, and he died suddenly on September 14th 2011.
Debatably able leccy, cat hater, fish tank paint splash mistaker, gardener, Dumbartonian and battler against all things Greenockian, irascible mangler of English par excellence, cynical and all round enthusiastically grumpy auld git.
I'm sad to say I never met the man (and I don't think any of my cyberacquaintances ever met him either), but I sure liked the cut of his jib and I was always pleased to see him here.
He was around when I first entered the world of chat forums, and I'm in no doubt that in those early days he was one of the ones who influenced me and my posting style. I'll miss him.
RIP Ian.glasgowwestend.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=userrecentposts&user=heidie

Aye, that was him! Ah cuildnae o' put it better. Sometimes though, the mask'd slip and ye'd get a glimpse o' the intelligent, thoughtful, decent and humane man underneath. He'll be badly missed. So long Heidie! And thanks!

Yes, I just read it on another forum. Horrible news. Yes, he'd be shouting like a furious mad shouty thing at us for saying nice things about him but we all know the grumpy old git persona was a cover for being a good nice bloke. Just a nice fluffy old Heidy, really. ;D Reckon he should be incarnated as a cat? Or a poor wee fishy imprisoned behind glass having to trust the Leki to feed and look after him? Oh poor Ian and how horrible for his family. Farewell Heidy, Heid Leki of all the tribe of the Lekii.

To me Heidie was the archetypical Scot tough blustery on the outside, but very intelligent, kind, compassionate, honest and gentle underneath great sense of humour.
He never complained about his travails.
Wonderful man
My heart goes out to his family a sad loss
I very much regret that I never met him and now I never will
I raise my glass to him

Oh such sad news! He was one of the first I ever "talked" to on a forum and I found him to be a gem. How heart breaking for his family, to be without him. Safe journeys, Ian, whatever they might be.

I was to visit him at his house with some books I had offered him when I come back to Scotland later this year. We had spoken just before I left at the end of August and he was not too good but just as cheery, not grumpy. Our forum will be less without him.

I've just found this thread. I'm shocked. I'd been missing his input. Amazing he was always so upbeat, given his bad health.

Act, first I've heard of this. I spent a nice day in the pub with him & JJ a couple of years ago, spoke to him on MSN on many occasions & had my email inbox battered by his jokes. The best thing you could say about Heidless is that you could not say anything bad about him. He was a friend to most folk across the great electrical interweb though he could be a nippy sweetie when he saw a friend slighted. I'll think about him with a smile now and again, I'm sure he'd be satisfied with that.

I see it would have been Heidie's birthday today....gives you a wee jolt, that kind of thing, doesn't it? Like realising you still have messages from folks no longer with us on your moby Lost a lot of friends these past few years but I can't find it in me to delete those messages or take their contacts out of the address book. Daft I suppose. As Hedley might say, getitrightupye ;D
