Well, now. Huckled North this morning after an early morning 'visit' to his home by Strathclyde Polis... Early days, but it's tempting to think the case against Tommy Sheridan might start unravelling due to revelations (!) made by Andy Coulson in the current Leveson enquiry dahn sarth re his knowledge of illegal phone-tapping. What TS did-- or didn't do-- in his private life is no business of ours, unless laws have been broken. However that a consummate liar such as AC (allegedly) who sanctions illegal means to bring about the concerted downfall of those in public life on the order of his 'commandants', could rise through the ranks from the filthy rag that was News of the World to personal press adviser to the Prime Minister of the UKE, is something else entirely. Interesting times ahead.

News just in. Andy Coulson has been charged with perjury.
What a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive....

TS can f*ck Goats for all I care, he is a wee opportunist, however can anyone on here if confronted and being asked did they cheat on their partner (hypothetically speaking that they had!!) Would they be like Ross Harper and admit the "Hanky Panky" making a joke of it or woul;d we denie it. TS made a mistake in denying it, he compounded the mistake by lying under oath, he doublly compounded it all by going for compensation. In retrospect he may well have been better saying, I will make no comment on my private life and take the flak??

The point I was making though, Bormes, is that it's possible (probable even!) that the News of The World ran stories on TS's private life because of 'evidence' they'd gained by illegal means, i.e phonetapping.
It's more about that than anything TS might or might not have done. I don't believe it's right that just because you're in the public eye your privacy can be invaded to this extent.

Aye you are right there rolo, but EVERY single media outlet either used his type of "bent" information or paid for it and never asked how it came about. Probaly thinking if they did not know where it came from, they could say if asked "I am innocent" Hypocritical liars. The press are and always have been as reliable as a politician.

Thinks. If Tommy's conviction came about via the use of perjured evidence by the prosecution, then surely that makes it an unsafe conviction that therefore must be quashed...? Will Tommy's name be "cleared", the pervy wee article that he is? Interesting times indeed!

There is certainly a body of opinion that this could be an 'unsafe' conviction, Westie.
Bit of an own goal by Coulson and NOTW, no?

If the "evidence" which was found was illegally gathered BUT was accurate, then in my eyes he is still guilty. If evidence illegally gathered was a lie or lies, then he is innocent, however the legal lot will have their own opinions on it and "politics" will again be involved. If he was released he could go back to the club fer mair orgies !!

I know that nota, I was meaning personally he would still be guilty in my eyes. Is it not the case in Scots law that the burden of proof against the accused is on the prosecution, Bormes? So if wur Procurator Fiscal relies on evidence from a witness that has now been charged with lying (Coulson) then there has to be a legal case to dismiss his 'evidence' in the Sheridan case. Let's remember what this case is all about. Tommy Sheridan was accused, all over the front pages of the redtop press, of going to a swingers' club in Madchester. Maybe he did and maybe he didn't. Is it our business, if no law's been broken? No, it bloody well isn't. What Coulson and his pathetic ilk are paid to do is to REPEATEDLY try to smear people for clearly political reasons, toadying to whoever employs them. These bottom-feeding, unprincipled 'journalists' make a living from digging the dirt on people---and where none exists, they're quite prepared make it up. That's a crime in itself, but most worryingly, the liar Coulson was appointed right hand PR man to the Prime Minister of the UKE. No doubt Coulson's family and friends will be going through hell. You'd not wish that collateral damage on anyone. Except Coulson himself has been only too willing to dole it out. Goes around, comes around

Interesting times ahead. And yesterday Bob Bird, former editor of the News of the World, was detained and charged, in Glasgow, with attempting to pervert the course of justice in the Sheridan case. As was another Murdoch colleague in London. You reckon Rupert must have known exactly what went on, and closed the paper before it all came out in the wash. Had to hand it to Jackie Bird, his ex wife, who reported it on BBC Scotland news. Without a trace of a facial expression going on. What a professional she is...
