Another hellish trip for Mr Rolo this week After a couple of days home after a week in SA making Belinda Carlisle, Tony Hadley, ABC and Rick Astley sound good on the Rewind 80s tour...... he's been on Air Oman to Muscat (complete with internet and mobile accessibility, I've never been texted from a plane before!), based in a luxury hotel/spa on the Gulf, average temperature just the 35 degrees. I'm just pretending to be spitting in jealousy. ;D though I am a bit, cos its dark and cold here 24/7. In fact he and his crew are out there with a bunch of artists doing shows to entertain the UKE army, navy and marines who're stationed there. I actually feel quite sorry for them all having to come back to this. Well, sort of.... I've learned a lot from his tales of his various trips to the Middle East and how he's found the culture there to be. Perhaps he only sees a modicum of what goes on, sure, as Westerners in such professions are treated in a certain way, but it's enlightening. I haven't ever been to the Middle East except for a short stop in Bahrain once. Has anyone else here been?

Although the daily commute to embra does have its attractions too. But after seven months of doing it I still haven't found them

It's only Brizzy! ;D ;D ;D
Seriously thinking of trying to get over there with my fare part-paid and extending the work bit into a week or two's holiday down in Syd and Mel.
I've been confined to Europe for too long, much as I love it.

I've been confined to Europe for too long, much as I love it. Go girl GO!!!!!. Get fare paid by full fare airline Then fly out with a cheapy! PS Will start force feeding the calf!!!!!!! I'm afraid my company's part-funded by the Scottish taxpayer, Oz, so it doesn't really wash to get a full fare ticket then keep the difference, tempting though it is. I'll leave that kind of jolly to Glasgow City Council employees... So, Mr Rolo's arrived back this morning instead of last night The government agency who facilitates troop entertainment had booked him a connecting flight to Glasgow-- not from Heathrow, where he landed last evening from Oman, but from Luton, with three hours to get there and check in on Queasyjet. But the M25 was so busy on a Friday night (quelle surprise!) the transfer coach was late to Luton and he missed the check-in by 5 minutes. (If you've ever watched 'Airline', the TV show about Easyjet, you'll know his frustration). So fair enough I suppose trying to save a few quid on a cheap flight but they ended up paying for a hotel room at Luton airport. By the way, the gig he was on was for the Royal Navy guys stationed out in Muscat and took place here; (you're not allowed to speak about the details beforehand for security reasons, only afterwards!)... www.shangri-la.com/muscat/barraljissahresortHell on earth, you'll agree ;D But these guys are out there protecting people, upholding international laws and generally being all round good guys so it'd be churlish to grudge 'em some well-deserved R&R. Anyways, I can tell Mr R's feeling the chill of Scotland particularly tonight, he's gone and put a fire on. Is there a good time to tell him I've not had the chimney swept this year yet? Ooops...

Fair enough. Our rule was 3 hours and under economy over 3 hours business. In theory going to Auckland was economy (2hrs50) coming back Business (3hrs 10) coz of the jet stream, Ok fly into Brizzy and out of Bleak City (Melbourne) thats prob the cheapest. Flights Brizzy/Sydney Sydney/ Melb can be reasonably cheap depending on airline and time. Poor Mr R. I remember we had been on a holiday on the Barrier Reef and had to change planes at Brisbane. The plane into Brizzy was 20 minutes late and we were set to miss our connection However just befor e we landed several names were called out and we were told to disembark first. We got off the plane and down on to tarmac ,not the air bridge, and a quick dash almost running and onto the Sydney flight which they had held for us. PS A very comfortable 28 deg in Brizzy today
