Did anyone else watch Billy Connolly and Aly Bain pay a very stilted tribute to the late Norman MacCaig last night?
MacCaig's work shone.

In that it didn't flow naturally. What on earth posessed whoever had the idea of remembering McCaig to hang the notion of Connolly and Bain going fishing around the neck of the programme?

What on earth posessed whoever had the idea of remembering McCaig to hang the notion of Connolly and Bain going fishing around the neck of the programme? "...The trio set out on a journey to locate the elusive trout of the poet's favourite fishing spot, the Loch of the Green Corrie, 1,600ft up a mountainside in Assynt." (...And you might at least try to spell the man's name right.)

Trio? I thought it was Ego Connolly and Bain who went fishing, who was the third one? (Ashes, maybe?)

I don't know where you sourced your quote but the 'trio' consisted of four people. As Jimmy Sanderson might have said 'did you watch the programme or were you in the pub?'

I don't know where you sourced your quote but the 'trio' consisted of four people. As Jimmy Sanderson might have said 'did you watch the programme or were you in the pub?' You aked what the thinking was about the fishing angle. I have informed you. The source cited also states "Fiddler Aly Bain, comedian Billy Connolly and writer Andrew Greig" as the trio. Who was the fourth? No, I didn't watch the programme. I asked you to elucidate as to why you found it 'very stilted' and your response has been it "didn't flow". Not much elucidation there. I asked because I like MacCaig and loathe (the current) Connolly and wanted to know more before seeking the programme out. Nicely edited (not) on the spelling correction front, btw. Pity you needed it pointed out.
