FFS! Total South of England media overkill all day and tonight because it's gonna get a bit blowy and rainy darn Sarth... Bejasus, you'd be forgiven for thinking it's The Blitz all over again, only without the Nazis... Trains, flights and other public transport already cancelled for tomorrow, even before the extent of any damage is known. Government ministers appealing for calm on the TV, and advising, gravely, that people shouldn't travel unless essential. oh DUH... There'll be a few trees down, likely, and some flooding. Well that's what happens when you build houses on brownfield plains with no proper drainage And another thing!--there's flooding all over the West End tonight specially on Great Western Road---but the reason for that is not just a wee bit of seasonal rain....it's because the stanks are totally blocked by leaves that wur Cooncil has not seen fit to hoover up. It's the exact same every single autumn. Keep the pavements and stanks clear and hey presto! problem averted. IMV we should shut the eff up and save our sympathy for folks that get REAL hurricanes and typhoons

Ahahahahahaaaaaaaa! Quite! ;D So, 24 hours later, it transpires that yeah, quelle surprise, a few trees got blown over, and it got a bit rainy in a tiny wee pocket of South East Englandshire... No truth whatsoever in the rumour that the population of SE England are now all getting counselling on the NHS, in an attempt to avoid post-traumatic stress disorder.

How about one in November 1967. We ended up with neighbour's shed in back garden.
The People at Renfrew Airport Met said they recorded wind speeds of 127mph before the anemometer blew away.
With typical Oz sang froid I slept through through it though I did waken once hearing milk bottles being blown along the street.
