After Friday's night out at the orchestra with 2000 OAPs, Saturday was a different kettle of fish altogether
The Scottish rock, pop and indie awards, what a NIGHT! Tis an annual event run by the Nordoff Robbins charity that provides music therapy to disabled children, their major fundraiser of the year.
So in our rock n roll finery, we were treated to a drinks reception, four course dinner, live performances from some of the winners, then a fairly chaotic afterparty, from which I'm still recovering
First off was the 1s and 2s which is an elimination contest: everyone stands up and has to guess by raising one or two arms, whether certain records from the 60s to the present got to No 1 or No 2.
My 20+ colleague at our table WON! The prize was £500-- which he refused to accept, and donated it back to the charity pot. (some going for an impecunious young guy in his first 'real' job..)
The auction was really something, £2200 for two TITP tickets, £2000+ for a signed Paul Weller guitar, £3000 for a private viewing of the Linn Factory, all in all a total of £145,000 was raised for the kids.
Now I'm not even close to that kinda spending league so didn't dare even blink, never mind wave to friends at other tables ;D I did buy a £20 raffle ticket though and guess what, I won a year's membership to the private members late night drinking and dining Club 29 in Exchange Square.
I dunno, it just seemed fitting to quietly pass it on to the aforementioned Young Colleague, who just moved to Glasgow from Inversnecky for w*rk. Great young guy, not many would've done what he did.
My own personal highlight was meeting up again with Gary Clark, who's just moved home to Dundee for family reasons. I reckon I was the only one present who never asked him if he'd be reforming Danny Wilson... ;D (oh I wish he would though...)
