Alex Salmond's government announced today that we'll now provide free school dinners for all children in Primary 1-3. OK, I'd rather (who wouldn't?) that their parents could all be in work and afford proper food for their kids, but they aren't. So this is a good way, IMV, to give those wee ones a good start. I'd MUCH rather my tax money' spent on them than on Trident. This, plus his proposal for state childcare to allow mothers to work without punitive costs, is all positive stuff. The extra tax take from the second parent working will go a long way to subsidise the childcare and other spend too. SENSIBLE, RATIONAL, SMART!

Agree with you roly however how can Lamont or any other labour supporter possibly vote against this, yet they did and it was one of THEIR ideas? ?

Because the Scottish Labour Party abandoned us many years ago and no longer stand up for the best interests of the Scottish people?
They SAY they want jobs and employment but do nothing to help those who want to work, via childcare, proper minimum wages, you name it. They WANT folks dependent on the State, there's swathes of votes in that, not least from the Unions who fund them.
<just saying>
I have to say though,credit where it's due, Willie Rennie of the LibDems at least agreed with the proposal today-- whereas Johann Lamont and Ruth Davidson only had words of condemnation.
