Three month old baby Mohammad was badly burned in a gas explosion at his home. His parents and siblings were killed. The wee baby's badly burned and his hospital doctors have requested help from Glasgow's renowned burns unit. His only relative here in Glasgow will give him a home and care for him, but donations are needed to help get the wee one over here for surgery. A colleague of mine has started an appeal and has raised over £2000 since 3pm today. If you have a few pounds to spare, please would you consider donating? www.justgiving.com/MuhammadSudaisBurnsTreatmentGlasgow

Over £6500's been raised in 24 hours, Bormes. The sheer generosity of Scots means the transport costs are now covered.
Just awaiting Alex Neil MSP giving the green light for the wee boy's treatment on the NHS at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary Burns Unit.
Margaret Curran MP has contacted visa dept to request swift, trouble-free transit for a guardian to accompany the wee soul in.

This is the sort of good news we need to keep us reminded that there is more good than bad in our world, most of the time!!

Not on anything like the same scale, but Ms Rolo called an hour back from Western Infirmary A&E to say boyf's had an accident at the Western Baths gym, involving a hand crushed between mega-heavy weights. Baths manager arranged for him to get to A&E right away (two minutes down the road thankfully) and he was triaged within minutes--now waiting for an Xray and stitching. Thank you, NHS Scotland, and the duty manager @ Western Baths.

Thanks for kind wishes, Oz. They just got home from A&E. The hand's broken and needed stitches plus a course of antibiotics. The boy's been in his damp, bloodstained gym gear throughout, now a bit shivery/shaky, so am requisitioning jeans, sweats and socks from Mr R's wardrobe. <rooting aboot in sink cupboard looking for the Van*sh...)

Just strapped, Oz.
And yes, have dispatched boy to cosy bed with hot tea, painkiller, antibiotic dose plus heat pack to wrap round the paw. Plus instructions to daughter on signs of shock...
Yeah, not lost on us tonight, the perils of this exercise lark...
So several shifts lost at his part time job in Nandos for the next week or two. And being the increasingly common zero hours contract, he has no employment rights, nor any claim to sickness benefit. It makes me fecking furious.

How did he manage to crush his hand?
Hope the recovery time is quick, never known anyone to break a hand.

How did he manage to crush his hand? Hope the recovery time is quick, never known anyone to break a hand. I gather he was lying prone lifting heavy weights, on lowering them down again his hand slipped under one side. Several bones crushed plus a deep cut. The Baths manager kindly phoned this afternoon to see how he was. Nice gesture and no, no question of any liability here. Just an accident...the boy's well used to using the weights. Anyways, I've been spoiling him a bit today, he got room service brekkie and cups of tea on tap

Anyway, back on topic...
Here's the latest on wee Mohammmad: donations have now reached £9500.
The Baby Mohammad Appeal is sincerely grateful to the Scottish Government, and particularly Scottish Health Secretary Alex Neil for giving its blessing to treat Baby Mohammad in Scotland. Baby Mohammad is at a critical stage, some of his skin grafts are not taking due to MRSA infection, and there is still a possibility that his condition could become life threatening. Hence the urgency to have this child despatched from Peshawar to Glasgow in the week beginning Monday 10 February 2014.
A commercial flight from Peshawar to Glasgow is not practical or medically safe. We therefore need the Scottish Government to organise travel via air ambulance or similar. The child's passport and guardianship papers will be ready by Monday 10 February. With all the paperwork in place, Baby Mohammad could be in Glasgow within 24 hours.
Mohammad Asif, Baby Mohammad's uncle, said:
"We are sincerely grateful to everyone who is supporting Baby Mohammad. My family and I are desperate to have the baby here in Glasgow where he can receive the proper medical care"
Robina Qureshi, human rights campaigner and Director of Positive Action in Housing, said: "I wrote on Saturday to the Scottish Health Secretary Alex Neil stressing the urgent need for Baby Mohammad to be brought to Glasgow immediately to begin medical treatment. “Baby Mohammad's conditions in Peshawar are clean but not sterile. He sustained flame burn injuries and full thickness skin loss of almost the whole of his face. The medical notes have been passed to clinicians in Glasgow. The biggest risk to his life is infection in his skin. There is also a danger he could go blind.
"We think a commercial flight would not be safe or practical. If the Scottish Government brings the child from Pakistan by air ambulance with a doctor and paediatric team , there is nothing to prevent the child being in Glasgow by tomorrow (Tuesday). That would be the best news ever for Baby Mohammad's family and everyone who has supported this appeal. This child has suffered so much tragedy in his short life, he deserves the best care Scotland can give him and the Canniesburn Unit is world renowned so this is the best place for him".
