Ach........... A flower of Scotland gone...... Dunno what's the saddest, her passing or the fact that she never got to see the referendum, something she'd strived her whole life for

But aside from that, she was a conviction politician across so many other issues that affected the Scottish people. A lovely, warm, real person of great empathy. I personally loved how she was so no-nonsense, straight-talking and cut to the chase in each and every debate, using language everyone could understand. A feisty, wonderful gal. Ach, indeed.

I've been thinking about her most of the afternoon, whilst sitting at my desk with not much to do coz it was a Friday and quiet. How come all the great wummin politicians of margo's ilk are all gone......... Margo , Mo Mowlam, Barbara Castle, Winnie Ewing, they more than made their mark and we are far better or having them All, as you put it Rolo, no nonsense straight talking folk, who could more than hold their own in what could be said to be a very male dominated job. When will see her like ( and theirs) again?

When will see her like ( and theirs) again? Same here, Nota, pretty much. I took a day's TOIL today and was in Cafe Gogo when the news came up on their big telly. Got a wee bit emotional, to be honest, and fired over to Atrium in the hope of finding *mates' there but sadly didn't. You've raised a brilliant point though. We need more women politicians like all those you've mentioned (and let's leave aside partly political views for the moment...).but given where we are now, I think sane, capable and humane people (whatever their gender) are less likely to enter politics than ever before. Officially that is. Because outwith elected politicians I believe there are seriously good women working in the grassroots and making things happen without the truly mental shenanigans that pass for government in Westminster. Where women are generally ripped to shreds because of their choice of clothing and shoes: because of how they *look* and not what they have to say. Little has changed in conventional politics since Margo was dubbed "the Blonde Bombshell". Except that conventional politics is rapidly becoming one dead duck.
