I enjoyed Edinburgh at festival time From my point of view, as a worker in Embra , its a complete pain in the erse, traffic, prices to many people blah, bah blah Most Embra natives I know hate the festival period, same with its new year party, they do their best not to venture into town centre until its finished I know someone who stays in castle terrace, they hate the festival, can handle the rest of the summer easily enough.

What Nota said.
It's great if you're there on holiday and taking in shows. We once took a flat in Marchmont for a week and just went to shows all day: expensive week, but good fun nevertheless.
But it's truly awful if you're working and trying to get from A to B. It's just wall-to-wall tourists, wandering along without a care, at a snail's pace usually. Big queues outside venues everywhere, pavement space limited.
Tour coaches clogging up the road, so ordinary traffic's gridlocked.
Good for the economy of course, but the Fringe is probably 100 times bigger than when you were last here, Oz.

Fair enough I can understand that. We have nothing like it in Australia. Hell last time I was there at festival time was in 1960s Last time I was there was in 1985 and tourist coaches were clogging up roads. I scored a parking spot right outside the Oz High Commission. It was weekend and closed otherwise I would have popped in to check the footie We really enjoyed the touristy bit of Edinburgh. The castle, Royal mile, Holyrood, New town etc etc spent 2 days there before moving on to St Andrews. (Only half a day in Glasgow it was raining and we were staying with friends in Ayr)
