Oh dear. 60000 teens (and their long-suffering chauffeurs, err,I mean parents) caught up in traffic jam on way to Murrayfield Stadium tonight.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-27689000My lovely niece, who turned 13 on Sunday, has been looking forward to the outing for oh,...months! but given *direction* of travel's likely been caught up in this melee. Oh my poor brother...
Going to big gigs is frustrating enough, traffic-wise, without errant coos complicating the equation..
Loads of folks missed the first half hour or so of the Eagles 8pm gig at the Hydro last night for traffic reasons. It was gridlock at 7pm, that way that the lights are green but nothing's moving.
I *get* the economics of stadium gigs, but at the same time, it's a piss poor show that the traffic infrastructure isn't designed to cope with the volume. Big gig tickets are bloody expensive (ours were in the cheap seats at £90 a pop
) so it's a bloody disgrace you miss any of the gig because of inadequate traffic planning.
Mr R had *acquired* a car pass from a contact working on the gig so we were lucky to circumvent the worst of it. But there was palpable anger from late arrivals I spoke to nearby who'd been sat in traffic for over an hour.
I believe there's similar issues going on re the Ryder Cup traffic access this summer. New bypass roads being built to accommodate it, at least. And much rumblings over the same issue in the East End for the Commonwealth Games.
A network of shuttle buses (like we do at T in the P) has to be the answer but older people are SO attached to their cars...
