The horror, the horror This bright beautiful sunny afternoon in Glasgow, with visitors flocking in to our lovely city for the Games, my team and I came out of a high-spirited planning meeting to the news that 300 souls have been lost on MH17. It would appear from early reports that Russian separatists and the Ukraine military forces are blaming each other, did I understand that right? My first instinct on that horrible news was to think of those affected, flying out of Schiphol on a trip home, on holiday, for work, whatever. How truly awful this is and your heart goes out to their families. My second was........Ohhhh Peony, given our recent chats here about aviation safety. It's feeling like another Lockerbie. Trigger-happy idiot people capable of mass murder. There really is no punishment that would ever fit crimes like these. You have to feel, also, for the beleaguered souls at Malaysian Airlines. Recent events have been totally out of anyone's control. Mad Bastards rule, it would seem.

Its terrible!!!! Why was it done?
One guy here was saying while it was mostly likely a rocket we cannot discount a bomb until the black boxes have been recovered.
PS Just heard on news that US has stated they have seen radar tracks showing it must have been a rocket

In my world, every mad mental fuckwit that carries out such hideous attacks would be forced to pick up what remains of the bodies of every man, woman and child they've murdered and made to deliver them back to the families.
See how f*cking brave they are then.
Some trigger-happy f*cker just killed 300 people. That's what happens when you put weapons in the hands of creatures with the IQ of pond life.

No matter who fired it - both the West and the Russians have to carry the blame for this

What has the West got to do with this?

What has the West got to do with this? They encouraged/directed the usurping of the democratically elected Ukraine Govt by extreme right wing groups using violence - this then created a bit of a vacuum, which allowed those in the east of Ukraine to decide on rather being Russian than Ukrainian, what with the neo-fascists being in control in Kiev Why didn't the West ( EU, USA, UK) just not encourage the disaffected to go after the government using democratic means - they didnt care who ran Ukraine from Kiev, as long as it wan't the then government - chickens coming home to roost yet again, and those passengers are paying the price of that shit. They just cannot learn a lesson from even recent history - Libya, Syria, Egypt - everyone a violent uprising encouraged by the West- every single on a complete fuckup - now ukraine is the same - I'm not even mentioning Iraq yet

I think you have to recognise that everyone does this, not just the West and some have different ways or reasons for doing it. Our media tell us what our Government want us to think and other countries do the same. It is frankly not surprising that this sort of thing happened, it happens every now and then. In fact a good number of years ago, I knew some people who were called into stand by as the umbrella had gone up allegedly as they thought the Russians had discharged silos of rockets. It was a mistake, however it was a mistake that almost started a Nuclear exchange. They discovered the reason and thankfully it led to talks and both sides changed procedures until the USA brought out their Star Wars scenario. Picking up parts and dead is not a real punishment rolo, people become used to that, it is amazing what you can do if you have to. If they have these things then training and professional behaviour is what they need, not idiots using the weapons. The man on the TV was right about what he said but only partially, he was assuming it was trained operatives and if it was not trained operatives or more likely the ones in charge would be intelligence officers with no training with the system, they would have probably given the go ahead not necessarily the man on the ground?

These guys are savages, pure and simple.
The reports coming through from the crash site are utterly harrowing. I find it hard to bear. With respect, the view that 'everyone' does it in various conflict zones might well be realistic, Bormes, and I bow to your knowledge of that--- but that doesn't make it acceptable, or ordinary, in any way, shape or form.
The people that do this kind of thing are thick to the nth degree. They are thugs, pure and simple. The worst of it is that even in the so-called educated West our political leaders are really no better. They just wear better-cut suits.
Bring on YES. I am sick to DEATH of being allied with idiots. We're here to give humanitarian aid to anyone that needs us.

As we are now at the rank hypocrisy stage by the west, it would be good to point out and remmber the Iranian airliner which too, was shot down by "accident" by the USS Viincennes . Wonder if the bosses of those responsible will be getting medals for murder, just like the captain and crew of the USS Vincennes got.
They poor folks on he Iranian airliner died an equally horrible death but that seems to have been swept under the carpet somewhat, especially now in the rush to blame the Russians .
Sickening!

So true, Nota.
How utterly laughable it is (and f*ecking greetworthy) that the sacrifice of innocent people just going about their business is regarded as simply *collateral damage*...
Not for the first time you start to feel you're just pawns in somebody else's game of Risk.
Fuck that, I say. We have the chance to opt out of such madness on Sept 18th. And people all over the globe know it and are hoping we take a lead and show an example by taking a different path.

Absofuckinglutely correct Nota, add Korean one and various other "accidents" it will continue to happen while systems are loaded and deployed. We are just sooooooo lucky there has not been a Nuclear accident yet. There have been a number of close calls with loading weapons onto Subs in Scotland but the public will never know. As worrying is the places like Porton Down. In the US there HAVE been accidents, again we have been sooooooo lucky. I hope our luck holds and some nutterfuckislamicbomber does not take Ebola as a suicide vest instead of Semtex. It takes around three weeks to incubate, can you imagine how that could spread in an Airport International Terminal? TWUNTS.

298 souls lost. 80 of them children. People from all walks of life, murdered indiscriminately by amoebae. Steven Anderson of Inverness was a search-and-rescue co-ordinator for the RAF at Kinloss for 21 years. Guys like him save lives on a daily basis. Other victims included a large delegation of scientists and researchers working on a cure for AIDS, on their way to a conference in Australia. Promising students, hard-working people, businessmen and women, members of the flight crew: mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, beloved friends. And for what. Will there be questions why MH17 overflew a war zone? No doubt. But the responsibility for this lies fair and square with those who'd shoot first and ask questions later.

Leave politics out of it!!!! This is an act of barbarism by horrible people. Let us extend all our sympathies and efforts to helping the relatives and friends of those killed and trying to ensure it wont happen again. I would like to think the human race learns by its mistakes but it never seems to do so Blame games on previous autocracies, whether American Airliners, Iranian Airliners, Korean Airliners or whatever, are no help to these poor people. Now the bastards are looting the site.
