Its an absolutely fantastic place. Should be on every ones bucket list. Its unbelievable and the natives are friendly!
Dont expect servile service you wont get it but the service is friendly and efficient, the people treat you as equals
We went for a scenic flight over the reef several years ago in a Britten tri-islander. The pilots, who's dad was a butcher from Springburn, said he joined the small airline to build up hours "in command"on multi engine aircraft before applying to a big airline. He said that now there was no way he was ever doing that now, the scenery, the weather and the fact that 10 minutes after leaving Cairns he was in uncontrolled airspace. He said that day he was taking us on a sight seeing flight about 3 hours flying and next day a scheduled service (milk run) up Cape York landing at several small airports.
I was drooling !!!!

I am drooling from afar, Oz I only got as far up as Brizzy, we were on a seven week tour with few days off and never managed to visit the Reef. We had Mr Rolo's sons, who emigrated to Sydney with their mother in the late 80s, with us for a few days on that tour. The younger was 5 at the time. He's the helicopter pilot in the link. He looks SO like Mr Rolo and shares his good looks with his half-sister Ms Rolo!

Pity the best scenery in Oz is North of Brizzie round Mackay and Cairns though other states will disagree with me.
BTW the Pilot in Pics seems to be based at Airlie Beach or Shute Harbour just North of Mackay.
Is Mr R's son based in Qld? We have had a helicopter buzzing around here at low level for several days now checking out the power lines with infra red heat seeking cameras looking for bad connections which may fail and start bush fires.

Yes, Nate's based in QLD, having moved from Phillips Island off MEL earlier this year. Does mainly commercial work. You have his pic now. Should you see him hovering nearby give him an almighty wave and semaphore our love from his folks here in Scotland.

Does he fly an MD530N Helicopter? The one doing the survey down here is chartered from a Qld Company
So close I could read Rego number but have forgotten it now.
