It's gone all shiny out there tonight....frost almighty I hear from my pal in Liverpool that John Lennon airport's closed on account of snow. None here yet on Cleveden Hill but skies are that black leaden way, so hopefully overnight a wee dusting of festive sna' If only because it heralds him next door poncing down the path in full Alpine gear, salopettes akimbo, like he's in some fantasy Swiss Alps scenario and giving it his best sophistomacated European Royalty vibe. Bring it on, I could do with a laugh

Don't you just *sometimes* miss the sparkly freezing cold though, Oz? Coming out onto shiny pavements, getting the gloves, hat and scarf on, and skiting about scraping the frost off the windscreen? It's not gone above 0 here in Glasgow today: clear blue skies, the most beautiful sunny day as evidenced by Sir Hank's pics of the Winter Gardens. Absolutely gorgeous. Spent the afternoon over at my mum's in Jordanhill with views South West from the hill: you could see all the way to the Erskine Bridge today, snow on the Kilpatrick Hills and the finest blazing pink sunset. No snow here, yet. But cleets at the ready...

In a word NO Looks great in pics and is very beautiful but hate nose and ears starting to freeze and ice off windscreen scraping going up sleeve... it always does. I cant respond now as I have to go to shops as soon as I can find a pair of sandals. Dont know where I left them havent seen them since before Xmas, last time I wore shoes just wear thongs (flip flops in UK) occasionally, mostly bare feet.

Hope you've found your sandals, Oz, mind and look out some socks as well, classic British style, all over the globe. Yeah found them under couch in lounge. Hell socks and sandals thats a Brit trade mark Now Scotland in winter based on me living? in Kirriemuir Road Bishopbriggs. wake up scrape ice off inside of windows to see what weather was like .... Snow on Campsies looked wonderfull turn on 2 bar electric radiator still shivering . Later when central heating installed listen for boiler to light at 4am and pipes starting to tick as they heated by 7 it was nearly warm . Remember bedroom thermostat set at 55f and living room at 65f I kept remembering Brisbane anything below 70F reach for sweater . On bad days wondering whether to dig out driveway or whether I could get enough speed to bull doze through snow and hoping enough juice in battery to start motor Wearing sheep skin jacket, made in Dumbarton, scarf and fleece lined gloves that was to get in car. (Here in winter a sweater) On a night out putting newspaper over windscreen to stop it icing over. Heating car keys with cigarette lighter to melt ice in lock so we could get in. Scraping ice forming on inside of windscreen until heaters melted it. (Brisbane debating whether to open windows wide or turn on AC) Having heater control on full for 9 months of the year Having to stop every so often when wet snow to wipewindscreen as wipers get blocked... that was torture invariably got wet Coming down Black Mountain on way home from Fort William through 2"or 3" of snow with radiator blanked off and watching engine temperature dropping (Brisbane people silly enough to buy some European cars have overheating problems) Standing well back from kerb when waiting for a bus when snow was turning to slush to avoid being soaked as driver deliberately running through horrible dirty puddles (Brisbane standing in shade to avoid sun while waiting for bus) Transport being all buggered up if forecast was for a chance of snow. Trains being held up by frozen points. Brisbane trains very occasional hold up with lines being buckled in heat The constant rain. Here they have to remind lady drivers where the windscreen wiper switch is when rain is forecast Seeing daughter building sandcastles on beach (Girvan) in July wearing hat and coat..... that was final straw 6 months later Sydneya and warmth You ask is I miss Scotland in winter ... Answer is Yes like a hole in the head

Just another day in paradise! go for a walk down beach after lunch to do a bit of people watching.... Can spot Pom grandparents out visiting either bright red or pale skins and sandals with socks PS Mrs Oz reminds of trying to get washing dry in winter.. In Brissie if a big washing by the time the last is hung out its time to start bringing in the early stuff.

They all like the sun too!! That must mean something surely? Aye, We are scairt o them thinngs!! True but not many in Sydney suburbia. We have red back and wolf spiders which can give you a nasty bite also Funnel web spiders whose bite can kill you , I havent seen one of these for ages. Luckily they are very slow moving and when the go to bite they rear up on their 4 hind legs and cant move, plenty of time to cosh them with a spade. In the last year we have had a red belied black snake about 3ft long but I think he was just passing though havent seen hrm since. Other regular visitors are brown snakes. The brown snake is near the top of the Kookaburras menu (after snags and steak) so if you have Kookas you dont have brown snakes. Both these snakes are deadly. Kookaburras are born robbers and fearless they will take the food off your plate. Mrs Oz is feeding this one .. He is completely wild , just greedy. The brown round his eyes is a mask so he wont be recognised. The restaurant in Ku-Ring-Gai National park just up the road have a notice on the outside tables which reads "Kookaburras Swoop... The Management will not be responsible for food taken by these birds" . They do! In the sea here are a few sharks but most are on land selling real estate and second hand cars. The worst thing in sea are Blue Bottles (Portuguese Man'o War to youz) jelly fish but they are seasonal. Their sting hurts like buggery The rest of the nasties are further North. Tourist up Cairns way asked if it was safe to swim off a beach coz he was worried about sharks.. He was assured there were none ... The crocs ate them all! BUT WE HAVE NO MIDGES!!!!!!!!

The occasional beetle or tarantula found in bags of imported fruit and veg is about the worst it gets...thank eff. Oh, a poor lady was terribly injured by a bolting stag last year at a pal of mine's house near Lochailort but that kinda thing's pretty unheard of, thing was trapped in his garden and panicked when they came in the gate. Midges though. Affy things. Vicious wee sods.

I remember reading about the poor lady For some reason unknown to me Midges never attacked me. Mrs Oz reckoned that even midges had to draw the line somewhere this guy is about 3"-4" across legs cant remember its name When son used to work at Glenworth horse riding place their first job in the morning was to ride the tracks to break the spiders' webs before the customers arrived... The horses didnt fancy it either www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxFFG__ibxgEat heart out This guy, a goanna, is about 4ft long very fond of BBQs hangs around BBQs ar Ku-ring-gai chase national park
