The first rays of spring sunshine finally filter through our (mucky) windows, shedding light on all MANNER of dark nooks and crannies that badly need attended to....so, as ever, I take a few days off over Easter and fire off to the DIY store for some paint.
"I'll just touch up that chipped skirting-board, door, window frame", I say to myself. A wee quick and easy job.
Well, no. Not exactly.
Where did those hairline cracks appear from over winter??? They'll need filled.
Back to Bee and Quee for those pointy stick things full of liquid plaster...
Oh and sandpaper to file the lumps back down with and for to 'key' all the woodwork in preparation for wonderful transformatory paint job. Quite tiring, that sanding...
Finally remember to look out last spring's paintbrushes. And despite thorough cleaning, of course they're solid as a rock.
Back to Bee and Quee, grrrr.
Finally start painting dado panel in tat: brush too big and can't be arsed finding a screwdriver so I skirt around leccy sockets, phone socket, aerial socket, leaving a margin round them... for now
Oooh! "Someone's" chipped a right big chunk out of the door frame, probably manoeuvering the unwieldy hoover in and out of cupboard. So I dob a huge bit of paint on it, attempting to fill it up. Go back later after a restorative glass of rose: excess paint has run out of the hole in big streaks all the way down and started to dry. Attempt to spread it about a bit. It's sticky like glue and goes all clumpy WAIL!
Then I remember having started the door frame I can't actually reach the top of it. Do quick risk assessment and decide it's unwise to get up on ladder or chair when alone in house. I'll just leave that bit for now...and go back to skirting board.
All's going fine at first, then remember I should probably have hoovered first. As I get to where it meets the floor, all this previously invisible oose JUMPS off floor and sticks to newly painted bits. Another restorative glass of rose..
Mr R arrives home, stands back and surveys my handiwork, shakes head. I'm nearly in tears at this point but he's started to fix all the bits I missed/messed up. Looking GREAT!
It's just that now the wallpaper looks really dull in comparison to the bright new paintjob.
I might need to go to Bee and Quee tomorrow.
