Work's taken me all over the place this past 25 years or so and its getting more interesting by the minute In June I'm to be part of the Scottish Music Industry delegation to a European conference in Latvia. Our forum (the one that took me to Bern last year and Tallin the year before) is a grouping of international organisations that lobby the EU for continued funding of music in all its forms. I am so excited to be heading out to Riga and to learn more about another former Eastern bloc country's cultural offer. But there's more I've had a yen to visit Morocco for eons, but just haven't quite been able to take a winter holiday yet, what with my and Mr and Ms Rolos seemingly endless work/study commitments. Guess what.

Wife was born in Meknes, over there and lived there for eight years. Great place to visit, however be aware as it is not as safe as it used to be. Was a great place and very friendly with amazing food!! If you have a chance to go on a desret trip for a couple of days, maybe 4x4 camping, it is absolutely brilliant in the Oasis? Well worth doing! Have a great time.

Guess what. I was last in Morocco in 1982, at a place called Camp Africa. It was a club 18-30 type place for hippies Like the sixties, if you remember much of it you weren't really there, although in saying that I got a dose of dysentery And, partook of some of the best local smoking "tobacco" I've ever tried...............

This has been, so far, a travel year for us
Firstly Madeira, then in April it was a weekend in Tain to see rellies, and then a day visit to Londonderry for a cousins memorial service
Norn Iron is a strange place indeed, I haven't been in Derry since I was 8, the whole country reminded me of it being Britain's equivalent to the southern states of the USA, quite modern with a veneer of civilisation but scratch the surface and there's guys was pillowslips over their heids burning crosses
Dunno if I would rush back, had a very uncomfortable feeling whilst I was there

I'd love to add a few days afterwards and explore a bit. Maybe Mr and Ms Rolo could meet me in Marrakesh! I'd love to get the gen from Ghis, when we next meet

Just checking Queasyjet baggage allowance for Marrakech. It seems that exporting the odd cheap chiminea might result in excess charges. OH, DRAT. Looks like I'll have to let myself down with the *designer garden * set hereabooots. Hanging my head in shame, so am ur. Am I putting the Rolos in danger of being pelted by our uber-competitive neighbours with giant couscous and burnt bits of halloumi? Flying wholemeal pitta, perhaps, frisbee-style?

Well now, that's the wean going on her travels an' all--- getting packed tonight for her 21st birthday trip. She and the boyf are heading off very early doors for a week in NYC, staying in the Flatiron District in mid-Manhattan. With temps looking like 30C+ all week, the summer clothes (mostly unworn) have been looked back out. Having only been in the US once, to Florida, I'm not sure they're ready for the sheer busy-ness, noise and occasionally chaos, that's NY. Her dad and I have been a few times, separately and together, for *work*, which is a whole different ballgame so hopefully the kids'll enjoy it way more than we did..... I will of course be on flight-radar tomorrow...cannae help myself. But thinking back to my first solo trip at 18 to Vancouver to visit my aunt for a month, my parents had no such reassurance. What I must have put them through, what with forgetting to check in via landline till the day after I got there...(bad daughter!)... Anyways, the two of them have been grafting in their low paid jobs for months to save up their spending money for the trip. It'll be interesting to see how THEY find the difference in everyday costs to here in Europe...I bet they'll come back with dollars unspent! Lovely young people, I hope they have such fun on this big adventure!

Great!! Hope they have a really good trip. I believe New York is now a "safe" city. I havent been there since late 60s and then only for a short time
They flying direct from Glasgow? How long are they away for?
No2 Grandson flew to Singapore on Friday by Singapore Airlines. He has a job there. Took off at 07:55 arrived Singapore 15:35 AEST amazing!
Of course we all followed him on flight radar from time to time.
I got hell too for not reporting often enough to HQ on my travels.

Hugely better value for money deals to be found by flying via a short hop away with an hour or so between flights. We're well used to using hubs flying out of Scotland, whether in England, Ireland or more often via Schiphol. Ms Rolo's not been brought up chauffeured everywhere, she's used to being out and about here and in mainland Europe-- I've always telt her to be aware of everything around her and trust her gut instinct. If something/someone *feels* wrong, then it probably is. The only thing that *slightly* worries me about US trips is the prevalence of nutters with guns, to be honest. Us Europeans can still be a bit naive in that respect. But you have to put risk/probability in some kind of rational context. Our wee specks of humanity travelling all over the place. How good it is though, when they come back safe, vibrant and excited by their travels!
