Who decided that every squall rolling in to the UKE now has to have a NAME, eh? Whats that all about? Just a media excuse to over-dramatise the WEATHER and terrorise people out their wits? Sure it's a wee bit windy out there tonight: thanks to *Frank*, it took me 15 mins to get to a gig locally and about 2 mins to get home with a tailwind, but hey, we're kinda used to that in Scotland and it doesn't feel any worse than any other winter to me. It's hardly unusual to have power lines down and roads closed by the odd landslip. Quite grim in Northern England I gather, poor folks struggling with floodwater-- but I wonder if the rainfall IS exceptional or whether more houses are being built on flood-plains, while at the same time the UKE government has restricted spending on flood defences in vulnerable areas? TV and press portray our new STORMS WITH NAMES like it's the apocalypse, like it's an outrage visited on Britain or something. Bejasus, a bit of perspective please! We see nothing remotely LIKE typhoons, earthquakes, landslides, hurricanes, droughts or forest fires hereabouts! It's pathetic, actually.

Yeah we used to name Cyclones after women but the feministra and the PC mob objected to the sexist implications so now they are named after both sexes. Having said that most destructive cyclones are female ones viz Cyclone Tracy Cyclone Grace Cyclone Marcia As you see all females "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned" very true. Part of the flooding in North England is due to the Environmentalists, and watch them dive for cover, in their refusal to allow the dredging of rivers and building of bunds in case it disturbed the habitatof the lesser big mouthed frog or some other, to hell with humans

Gees you guys are really copping it!! Fingers crossed for you all Some pretty grim floods in a couple of parts of Scotland but nothing terrifically unusual. North of England had it quite bad (again...). I'm not convinced by global warming evidence yet, but sure, we're seeing a pattern of relatively warm and wet winters lately and this flooding shouldn't be allowed to happen; viz lack of flood defences as mentioned earlier by me and Bormes... Read an interesting report about how grouse moor owners in Northern England have been building channels to drain rainwater on their high ground so as to encourage more birds for shooting...but this apparently leads to excess water flooding down into the plains where folk live--and draining into the rivers and streams, contributing to them bursting their banks. But hey, so long as Sir Johnny Codswallop gets to shoot grouse, what else matters, eh? <grrrrr... > So yeah, Oz, pretty damp hereabouts but we're used to that

Gee I thought 79mm rain was bacd!! but yesterday wt got 117mm (Didnt take time to rain) Tourists enjoying Sydney weather Its strange where we live, just North of Dee Why, there must be an anomaly in the high ground to the west coz "weather" whether strong winds or heavy rain always seem to bypass us .. A mile North or South and they cop it but we always seem to escape the worst, well nearly always.

Pretty much, yeah, Oz, but the similarity ends with harsh winters! Oddly enough that part of the Baltic has much better, more reliable summers than we do. Cos they don't get the Atlantic El Nino fronts rolling in. I've been in Estonia in September and Latvia in June, both a fair bit warmer--and much sunnier-- than at home. Going to Eastern Poland for a conference in May, the hosts are optimistic we'll be pleasantly surprised by the heat! I've been out the front steps just now with a humungous packet of salt, so's Ms and Mr Rolo don't do themselves a terrible injury coming in from work in the wee sma' hours. Snow (a lot of it) forecast for tomorrow and up here on Cleveden Hill the pavements are icing up as I type--nearly went on my backside with a heavy shopping bag, laptop and forty three layers of clothes weighing me down, hahaha. Bring it on, I say. Always lovely, bright and crisp when it snows-- the perpetual black cloud layer gets-tae, for a few days anyway. If only the council'd grit the effing PAVEMENTS..

The brandy keg has to be ordered from the USA - no one in UK supplies them that I can find - including shipping it costs about £100.00 - we'll get him one, once he's fully grown ( about 4/5 stone to go yet and a few inches in height He's still a bit mental yet too, as he's still a puppy
