Rain has washed most of the snow away today...... The brandy keg has to be ordered from the USA - no one in UK supplies them that I can find - including shipping it costs about £100.00 - we'll get him one, once he's fully grown ( about 4/5 stone to go yet and a few inches in height He's still a bit mental yet too, as he's still a puppy Gee hes still to grow WOW !! Takes a while to train 'em He still at stage of knocking things over not being sure of his size? Yep - he's now learning how to come down the stairs, going up is not bad, but coming down again..........whoooooo scary stuff as ye kin see he still think she can sit on yer lap....... Because their body mass grows quicker than their bones can strengthen, he can't be walked to far, especially not on tarmac/hard surfaces, so he's still on mainly one walk a day Weight wise he'll top out @ 14/15 stone

This is the wee puppy not enjoying the snow fur first time This is a photo of the day we got him - he's grown a tad since then by ra way This is him giving Mrs Nota a wee cuddle................... HAHAHAHAHAAAA! Great pics, Nota! Who's taking who for a walk! I'm not really a dog-person but TBH, the wee chap's adorable..what's he called? Oz, I'd take snow any day over the more usual relentless cold rain and wind. Such excitement still, in our house, when it snowed the other day. We were about to look out the sledge for Ms R and her pals to take down Kelvingrove Park but nay, it rained overnight and it's all gone, DAMMIT.

He's called Sandy My aunt n uncle are like you, not really dog folk in the slightest but Sandy has taken her heart, as soon as she comes in she gets hugs and cuddles from him and he'll just sit beside her - she's getting well used to him now On another ( but not entirely unrelated thing - see dug) I saw a rather excellent article on yer pal the GP in the Guardian - I was doubly surprised when I noticed it was even written by the usually completely useless Severin Caroll

SO, Storms A-G, whatever their names are, have played merry hell with our 130 year old roof...some issues with missing/leaky tiles and what looks like a bigger chimney repair with our neebs next door. Lovely upstairs neeb (recently retired at a very young 65) volunteered to take charge of getting repair quotes. And bloody hell, some firms must think we button up the back or something On the tiling job, he was told by one reputable (?) company that the job couldn't be done without mooring a cherrypicker in the back lane and the cost would be £2500 for a day or three's work. So on his daily stravaig about the neighbourhood, he noticed a chap fixing a nearby roof suspended by a harness with his mate holding the other end (old school!). And guess what! Chap came round, had a look and quoted £180. He did find a wee bit extra work once he'd lifted a tile or two so eventual bill was a whopping £240. Took only a few hours-- not three days! First chimney repair quote is (gulp!) £8500, most of which is probably the expense of putting up scaffolding, portaloos and temporary office cabins out on the pavement. I mean, is this Postcode quoting or WHAT?? Harness Man's been invited to quote, needless to say. These old buildings were built to last and withstand almost anything and sure, you need to invest some care over time. Yet a brand new apartment build on Highburgh Road lost part of its shiny new roof the other week, blown clean away. If I'd spent £300K+ on a tiny two bed flat and now had to shell out on repairs a year later I'd be well pissed off. First world problems of course.

I do, as it happens! You can see evidence of previous repairs, the issue has always been that two of the four flats next door have absent landlords so temporary fixes up till now. But that's been sorted: we've sold it to them as a serious H&S risk. Plus if it falls it could take a lot of roof with it, meaning much worse repair costs. If you can't see wee attachment, just click to enlarge it. We're quite high up on Cleveden Hill with no protection against the prevailing South Westerlies. What you reckon, Oz? Attachments:

Damn I cant get it big enough to see properly
Has stack moved in roof space? By looks of flashing doesnt look like it though some slates look a bit dodgy so it could have moved. IS Tv Arial fixed to it? If so get that down quick smart. If only top courses have moved could perhaps put a steel band (not from Caribeen) round it to hold it together but as I say I cant really see clearly enough. Are any of the chimnies live< if not demoliah below roof level. At worst will be a rebuild of top courses. The sandstone itself looks ok.bit of spalling but not bad.
Sorry I cant be of more help

Ta Nota I zoomed it... Never ever forget Im a Techno-peasant.
Chimney doesnt look too bad from this angle, get your guy with harness to have a look at it re-pointing may be all that's necessary. If it doesnt cause too many dramas get rid of arials the dish will act as a sail band round it will hold it together if not leaning.

woops silly me!! not steel band unless galvanised
Dodgy slates prob caused by sweep or arial erectors' big hooves.
from my long ago studies slate nails last 100-150 years before the constant movement of the slates cuts through them...... now isnt that interesting!!!

TV aerials need got to feck, he said that too. All four chimneys in our half are live (two per house), don't know about next doors four separate ones.... but I think likely none/few of em are live as all four flats have been extensively *modrenised* this past 10 years or so--- before open fires/woodburners got fashionable again...

Yeah Im not just a pretty face and incredibly sexy! Guy seems to know his stuff. While he is up there get him to have a butcher's down the flues to check everything is according to Hoyle ie no displaced masonry or parging ( parging is the cement lining to the flue, there probably wont be any as Scot's builders were notoriously tight) also cap stone is OK and pots are properly bedded and that flashings are ok ... that should take him about 1/4 hour. I dont expect any dramas but best to be safe. Flashings on a building of that age could be sus. Every time any one mentions a Steel Band I think of these guys! They are great. PS You got head on backwards??
