Parking in the west end and not having a parking ticket is like a one legged, blind man crossing a mine field. There is a very good chance that resident permits will be resurrected.(They have been in the Hillhead side for years, the idea is to extend to the Dowanhill, Woodside areas etc I really wonder (other than creating non jobs) what good is the idea? If there was no parking restrictions, do you think there would be gridlock? I do recognise that many, many people park then go to the underground into the city centre and that congests the area.

In my home town , Brisbane, they used to have "Park at Areas", all day parking meters and parking areas for residents, with stickers, across the river from the town centre. I t was a wonderful way to start day $1 in meter then a ferry ride across river.
It was even nicer going home

Parking for residents or by payment is in force in Hillhead, Woodlands and Park. Its about to come into force in the other areas around Kelvinbridge. Most of the residents (including me) are all for it. At the moment there are no restrictions and it's impossible to find a space within walking distance of home during the day, largely because drivers don't want to pay the park-and-ride fee at the subway car park (and don't anyone tell me it's always full - I pass it every day and it's never full).

Hi rdt2, Unfortunately, I am reluctantly agreeing with the idea too now.
The Hillhead restrictions were due mainly to the amount of vehicles at the Glasgow Uni., an attempt had to be made to clear the streets for residents, instead of the Uni having to bear the cost of building enough parking spaces, they put in the current restrictions. Down in Woodside area they had the same problem. I just wonder if parking restrictions were removed would there be gridlock? If public transport was decent enough I think that would help immensly.

What's the penalty for parking in a resident's space without a permit, anyone know? And is it enforced? I think it's fair enough charging to park in congested residential areas---after all the vast majority of cars during the day are parked by people coming from outlying (lesser council tax paying) areas, are they not? If they can afford to run a car, shirley they can afford a quid or two a day at the park'n' ride? Re gridlock, Bormes, I see that every morning on our road, there's a tailback Monday-Friday from Gt Western pretty much all the way up to Dawsholm. Some of that's to do with the prevalence of schools locally; all those daft wimmin in Chelsea tractors taking up all the roadspace
