Terry Pratchit , I shall wear midnight............ Hmmm. You a Pratchett fan, heidie? I'm not, but boyf is. It's a tradition with us that I always get him the latest Pratchett at xmas. I had a look at that Midnight thing in the shop tho, and I thought, "nah... teenage female witch sort? sounds like Terry is jumpin the shark" so I didn't buy it. I had a suspicion it would irk as much as that 4th book in the Hitchikers Guide trilogy... which really irked. Complete letdown and disappointment; an insult to fans. ...bit like the Archers 60th anniversary episode, about which... don't get me started.

I got the new Blue Nile biography, and reviewed it on another thread. I'd also like the Alastair Gray retrospective but it's well pricy at £30.
A friend gave me Nigella's latest cookbook. No idea why, I'm not a fan of hers but anyway, too much tortuously w*nky copy--just the receeps would have been fine. (Well, OK I suppose)
Think will put on Ebay.
I'm saving myself for semi-retirement at which point I plan to read books like a madwoman. Starting with Patrick O Brian's series which shall be read with my feet up over lunch somewhere on the Catalan coast. Oh joy.

I Starting with Patrick O Brian's series which shall be read with my feet up over lunch somewhere on the Catalan coast. Oh joy. O'Briens hero Jack Aubrey is based on Thomas Cochrane as are many of his exploits. Cochrane was, of course, a Scot call by Napolean himselr " Le Loup de la mer" Now wasnt that a fascinating piece of trivia? ;D

The most cross I got over a book this year was the sheer damned unwarranted unfairness that befell one poor godforsaken Ned Rise.
Found in "Water Music", T. Coraghessan Boyle. Based on the expolits of Scotland's very ain intrepid African explorer, Mungo Park.
Poor, poor Ned. Not fair.

I just bought a shedload of Larry McMurtry books from various tinternet sources. I tend to steer clear of Amazon (too pricey) I use a combination of Ebay, Play.com & Abebooks. The latter is puir nuts, 69p for a book & the p&p is £2.99 ;D
Abebooks is a cracking resource btw & the p&P is fairly steady whether the book is shipped from the UK or the USa, as I said, puir nuts.
