Well, Gilmorehill, (mind if I call you Gil for short, I'm lazy that way) You know you're right and I know you're right And I'll take it a step further. Example; my wean's doing Higher English and she's no' three bad at it either. In a recent NAB (part of the coursework which you have to pass, for those unaware of the current exam system) she got 23/25 for an essay she'd been working on for months. Do the maths, it's a good A pass and she needs another A for her conditionals for entry to Glasgow Uni come September. Next thing, just before last months' prelim, she came home and told me her essay had been < get this!> photocopied by the school and distributed to all the Higher English candidates.I was fucking well OUTRAGED. ... Is that even legal, without her agreement and permission? Hmmmmm. Not good. I wondered the same. Given the fact of plagiarism on the rise - hence this thread - it is in the news, and the school is encouraging it. Who's the head teacher? Name and shame. Or perhaps s/he doesn't know - which is even worse! (mind you, depends on the 'head teacher'. I was at a conference once where the head teacher of a well known and well respected Scottish state secondary showed up, having been newly appointed to the post a couple of weeks before. He was 24. I couldn't believe it.)

A friend of ours, when a student at the Art school in Glasgow had a work she did sold to Louis Vitton, who used her design frequently on high priced items. The Glasgow scool of art got all the money for selling this to Vitton and explained to Dawn she was not entitled to anything as a student, all her work belonged to the Art school. I wonder if schools operate in the same way?

For reasons I've explained before on the clatty besoms thread, I'm all tuckered out dealing with the school on some very serious issues indeed.
Obviously I'm not going to name the school or the head teacher but suffice to say, the arrogant fuck battled me head on re the harassment issue until I presented incontrovertible evidence from four sources. She spoke to me initially like I was shit under her shoe, as if to suggest my wean was 'over-reacting'; it wasn't until I threatened polis action with the evidence that she realised I was more than her equal.
Anyways, if some weans pass Higher English as a result of memorising my wean's work they know fine well they've cheated and they'll get found out eventually--- one way or another. And their consciences will bother them.
Ultimately it just illustrates the pressure state schools are under to deliver 'results'. I don't condone plagiarism or cheating but right now my focus is on calmly supporting my wean through the next few months.
We can bleat till the cows come home about how schools operate but the basic point remains, the damage is done to so many kids BEFORE they reach the age of 5. They get their mores and values from how they're brought up in the home. Parents need to take that responsibility and not shove it onto the state to deal with.
There's been too much of that crap mentality allowed in the last 20 years or so.
