Senior Scottish polisman says the polis must be allowed to use discretion & common sense!! www.heraldscotland.com/news/crime-courts/police-must-be-freed-from-time-consuming-red-tape-1.1060890"...discretion may no longer be the better part of policing. Scotland’s most senior operational officer has warned that rank-and-file constables have effectively lost the ability to use their professional judgement. "...Over a number of years there has been a drive towards a performance target culture and various recording standards and binding force procedures. So if we want to save money, beat bureaucracy and free up officer time we are going to need to carefully consider police discretion. We need to take police officers out of straight jackets and allow them to lift their heads, use their common sense and their judgement.” Hear bloody hear. Over a number of years and after witnessing a fair amount of incident, I have lost a LOT of respect for the polis, both locally and nationally. They have been among some of the worst attitudes I have ever encountered among public servants. (Maybe it's because they spend so much time dealing with the thankless nonsentient feral dregs of society, and sweeping disgustingly behaved drunks up every night of the week, but) I'm sorry to have to say it: in my experience in recent years, the polis have been lazy, stupid, disrespectful, cheeky and jaded. And especially among the youngsters, not an ounce of common sense. God forbid we ever vote to arm the buggers.

I wonder whether it was the police press release or the Herald that said "straight jackets" when they meant "straitjackets".
Back to school, all of them! ;D

Best comment from Pitt St since suggesting a single police force for Scotland. (Looks like being reduced to three as that seems to be the way the fire brigade are going)
