Did you all get some as gifts? Was it something you'd asked for or just chosen for you by others?
Is it just in our house that we wake up every day of the hols with the beds covered in open books? Such a luxury to have time to read into the wee small hours, I guess.
Mr R's loving his History of Aviation, (and I, Partridge! and Private Eye annual), the wean's boyf can hardly tear himself away from his Metallica biography, while I'm reminiscing like mad over my Billy McKenzie biog.
Are people still buying a lot of novels? I used to buy more but mostly ended up wishing I hadn't bothered. Maybe I chose all the wrong stuff though.
Any recommendations for a good contemporary novel?

Outside Maccas at Bombala. Ladies stocking up on supplies.
Got a couple of "Sharpe" Novels. "Sharpe's Battle" & "Sharpe's Seige"
If Mr R is keen on aviation history here are my 3 favourite autobiogs in Chronological order.
1 QANTAS RISING Hudson Fysh with a "Y". Story of QANTAS from its inception in 1920 to sometime in 1930s written by one of the founders. His story & airline being one & the same. enthralling.
2 FATE IS THE HUNTER Ernst K Gann, the novellist, but also his selected memories as an Airline pilot from 1930s to 1950s with American Airlines & others.
3 THE BIG SHOW Perre Closterman a Free French fighter pilot in WW2 flying wit RAF including flying with 602 City of Glasgow Squadron
PS 34° C clear blue skies here

I'll pass that on. I tell you, if you were ever in the unlikely disaster scenario where both pilots have gone down with food poisoning and the panicky announcement goes "Does anyone on board know how to fly a plane?" Airplane-style, you'd want Mr R on board. If there wasn't a proper off-duty pilot I mean

Peter Ackroyd on London is always a treat. This is his meticulously researched (as usual) account of what lies underneath the streets of London. Fascinating, if a wee bit on the slim side. Have you not read The Wasp Factory, rolo? It was Banks's first; created a helluva buzz at the time. (haha, geddit??) acht please yersel Superb writing, if your taste runs to the frankly horrific...

To my shame, no I haven't, Westie I am frankly terrible when it comes to choosing novels. I get so bewildered by the massive choices on offer I usually leave my rare visits to W*terstones (or airport bookshops) empty handed. Too many books, too little time...
