Good point, Bormes. You do get the impression that many of our English neighbours are having an identity crisis. There's a section of the population that seem to hate everyone that isn't them; Scotland, Ireland, Afghanistan, Iraq, Argentina, the EU, Asia, India, you name it. Centuries of English colonialism and an over-inflated sense of their own superpower status is proving difficult to overcome, it'd seem. Maybe it'd be more constructive to fix the 'wrongs' in their own society before pouring out endless bile against just about everyone else. I think it's more to do with them confusing English with British, to many it was one and the same, whither the Scots, Welsh and Irish could see the difference - Now that a lot of Britishness (thanks to devolution etc is waning) they are at a loss as every one of teh other 3 countries are a lot more distinct In reality its no one's fault but their own - they conflated English and British and never discouraged the world from doing the same Much truth you speak On my travels though, I do find that people all over are much more attuned to the different nations that make up Britain than some of the English are. Never once have I been asked if I'm English on my travels. The only (rare) confusion's ever been whether Scottish or Irish. As I said I believe a few of our neighbours still have this entitlement thing going on. I've lost count of how many times I've cringed in restaurants, hotels, planes, conferences and the like when some English people (always Home Counties types) have been downright rude and condescending (in terribly loud voices) to what they consider 'foreign Johnnies'. You'll have noticed how when Scot, Welsh or Irish wins at something they're British.... ;D

Polls are only polls of course, and depend much on who's asked and what question's asked.
However, an IPSOS MORI poll taken over last weekend states that while outright support for independence is 1% up at 39%, the percentage of those who outright oppose independence has fallen from 57% to 50%.
That has to be good news because it means that people are thinking, talking and prepared to consider the wider spectrum of proper evidence.
I get the impression that a lot of Scottish residents realise their intelligence has been insulted by the sheer pap propaganda emanating from the Unionist parties.
Time to raise the debate? ;D

The SNP are fielding a record number of candidates for Glasgow City Council elections in May. If you're interested in contributing your views and highlighting issues you think are important, you can do so via this brief, on-line voter survey which is on the Glasgow SNP website; www.glasgowsnp.org/survey/You can withhold certain personal details if you prefer. At the forthcoming council elections in May, you will have the opportunity to vote for your party of choice twice using your 1st and 2nd preference votes. Any other issues you highlight will be taken account of and our candidates and campaign teams informed.

In inverclyde they are only fielding 9 candidates - on eof them is of a rather dubious background - he's the MD of McGills buses which is financed and owned by local gangsters - you'll see their blue/white buses around. All their competitors locally strangely seem to go on fire, suffer break-ins or suddenly decide to give up. Having this chap (because of his employers) running is suicide locally - something which the SCUM party is making great play of already
