The Spanish renewables company Gamesa are investing in a new turbine manufacturing plant in Leith, Edinburgh. 800 jobs to be created and of course 'spin offs' (pardon the pun) for the local economy/suppliers, businesses etc. Such a boost to the growth industry that's renewables in Scotland. Finally we are MAKING things again and we're leading the way in research too. Obviously our Spanish friends have no issues with any upcoming political changes in Scotland. Gives the lie to Dave, Gideon and his chums who continue to their scaremongering argument that the 'uncertainty' will put companies off.

Not forgetting this; GlaxoSmithKline just pledged £100 million for its manufacturing facilities in Irvine, North Ayrshire, and Montrose, Angus. All this plus Amazon's recent announcement of 1000 jobs in the Paisley and Fife areas is clear evidence that international companies don't want to invest in Scotland because of the 'uncertainty' over independence. Isn't it Dave/Gideon?

Not right now, no, Oz Cosy tat; these early spring daytime highs lead to minus something at night....brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr We've a way to go, sure, but off to a flying start with all these recent investments. All these companies will be expected to deliver apprenticeships for young people, who make up the single biggest category of unemployed in Scotland, though about the same as the rest of the UKE proportionately. The Scottish Government Cash for Communities award my company just got will enable us to employ probably 12 more youngsters for a year or more. Small fry I suppose but I will get no end of joy from spending the seized assets of drug dealers on kids who've been so badly let down by the inane policies of successive UKE governments. We'll also be enabled to spend some of this money with Scottish companies and suppliers as well as freelance musicians/tutors. It really is a rather good idea ;D I only hope we do it justice. <steps off soapbox>

And the good news just keeps on coming ;D www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-17522644So many Scots working so hard to build international markets. It really is inspirational. Report doesn't mention what percentage of the food exports consist of Deep Fried Mars Bars, however. I think we should be told

What's the measure of that, Nota?
Something to do with lack of growth, static interest rates, inflation rises and unemployment levels for what is it, more than three quarters in a row?
Is it the UKE as a whole or is it broken down by country; Ireland, Wales, Scotland?
I should go Google I suppose but I can't be a*sed <weary>

I see what you mean though, wi the Westminster Govt giving it silly on the petrol thing. A handy diversion....

Are these wind farms subsidised? Is Balfour Beatty a Scottish Company? In what way, Oz? Do you mean direct subsidy like reduced rental, tax breaks, employment inducements etc or indirect as in R&D? I've no idea of the current ownership status of BB I'm afraid. Too tired to find out. Hey! the harder I w*rk, the luckier I get

our wind farms are heavily subsidised both for constrauction and for cost of production to enable them to compete with our coal and oil fired power stations. Height of madness in this economic climate when we are trying as a country to compete in a very competitive world.
I was wondering if UK wind farms were the same
Read that Balfour Beatty was laying off workers. I rather thought it was a Scottish outfit
