Another job I'll get around to on retirement (at 82 and counting...) is to gather up the cabinet full of photos I've collected this past 40 years. My sis mentioned last night she'd heard there was a machine you can get now that scans your negs and you can then put them on disc or print em out. Does anyone here know of such a thang? Dead useful where your prints are all dog-eared or faded I'da thought.

yeah I had one from Canon that transferred 35mm slides to puter thence to discs. It clipped on to my Canon Scanner Unfortunately it was a few years ago and after a massive computer crash had to buy a new puter and can no longer get software for it but canon should be able to help. PS I bought it in Singapore

I don't understand. What use are the negatives other than in their original form? There are folk these days who do restoration of old photies. You scan and send the photies you've got (or send them the original photies) and they tidy them up - restoration, colour enhancement / correction etc. You get back restored photies in a format where you can get them printed as usual. This wummin's awfy good: www.swpp.co.uk/members/goto/rd.cgi?redir=http://www.adamimagecraft.co.uk/

Byres Rd., Super Snaps have just done some old black and white and some old Agfa coloured slides of my Army days and a good job, onto a disc which you can download and keep the disc.

Cheers a'body ;D I have spent much time looking at this, I've got around 2000+ slides to get done. The wee machine mentioned above would take hours there is better available, but expensive. Nikon used to do one that had an auto loader but was very expensive but was the best available, cost over a grand but you could resell it and get most of yer money back. Plustek now do scanners, 8200 is the current version. It's not just the quality of the scanner, but the quality and technology of the scanning software which makes all the difference especially for speed. I'll post more later when I.m on a desktop, the iPad isn't much cop at copyin and pasting links.

I scanned about a hundred pics once. Boy was my concentration level challenged.

Might be worth considering a few of us sharing the cost of a good scanner, taking turns to convert our stuff then selling on the infernal machine? I'm up for discussing thon. Has to be wayyy cheaper and easier than expensive commercial alternatives
