A young friend of ours is taking part in Series 3. Next Tuesday on BBC2 at 8pm. I tell you, this boy can BAKE, he regularly contributes puddings to our big family get-togethers chez nous ;D He's also sickeningly good at just about everything else; design, fashion, style, and currently a medical student at Glasgow Uni. A polymath and utterly charming with it. Good luck, James! www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b013pqnm/episodes/guide#b01m2b1z

My young friend James is doing rather well on the Great British BakeOff. That's him through to Round Three.
He's sworn to secrecy over the upcoming rounds but you know what......I think he might just go the distance ;D
Last night on the bread episode where they had to produce an 8 plait loaf I said to Mr and Ms Rolo he'd get it right. He's smart as a tack and lovely with it.
;D ;D ;D

Well now, it's all kicked off this week after young James was judged star baker in Episode 3 ;D Even the Daily Fail got in on the act, calling him 'the hunk in the tank top', bejasus . Much hilarity amongst friends and family...almost expect him to get mobbed down Byres when he comes back from Shetland to Uni next month. ;D ;D The programme pulled in 4.5 million viewers this week though, which for BBC2 is pretty amazing. A reaction to those hideous, mindless reality shows like TOWIE, rammed as they are with talentless, spray tanned, materialistic thickos desperate for their 15 minutes of 'fame'.

Yeah, I saw the Daily Heil thing and wondered if that was your pal. I think I hate him - you know, on the grounds of all that multi-skilledness. Good luck to him. (My excuse, yes I do frequently look at the Daily Heil, 'cos I like to know what the scary people are thinking.)

Witty piece by Victoria Coren on the show today; www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/sep/02/victoria-coren-brains-always-beat-brawnHate to break it to her but he also does triathlons.... ;D) Often to be spotted out running of an evening in the WE. One year over in Cat, five of the teens had a swimming race out to the pontoon in the bay, guess who was half way back again before the others even got there.... ;D ;D ;D (and the only reason I was on the winning table tennis team was cos he was my partner...ahahahahaaaaaaa!) He's going to be the most fantastic doctor, just like his mum.

So, the final of GBBO's tomorrow night at 8 on BBC2. John, Brendan and...James Had dinner and a few libations with his ma, my lifelong friend from Glasgow Uni, tonight at Wur Chip. Hic, oooops! I've no idea what the result is , but James'll aye be a winner to me and mine. He's inherited the very best of both his parents and will be the most fantastic doctor. And a pretty good baker too... ;D

Maybe after the Bake Off result we could have a more positive event. The BAKE ON !
The winner would be able to make me a bacon sandwich.

OK, he lost and even Susan Bowie isn't trying to put on a brave smile.

He may have lost but he must have been very good to reach that level .
What have you ever done to achieve that level in anything apart from sneering?

Very clever young fellow, wonderful attitude, when his mix fell, he just got on with it, unlike some other youn men when a small hiccup happens they violently smash their tennis rackets, perhaps forgetting it was not the racket that lost the oint, it was their play!! Oz, don't worry, stan and mini hate being ignored they only come here for relief from their old wives club, where so many agree with them and their outlooks.

John was a worthy winner, I thought he was great all the way through the series, and the result was fair, IMO.
James had no intention of ditching his medic studies, whereas John, who got a first in Law over the summer, had realised he didn't want to live life as a lawyer but to forge a career in bakery. He'll do really well I think. ;D
James will make his mark in other ways. A bright future for a bright, grounded ---and lovely--- young guy. ;D
