Anything good out there? Can't say I fancy our groovy Grosvenor's current double bill of Life of Pi (about a boy and a tiger) or some Hobbit nonsense. Heard a few lukewarm accounts of Jack Reacher with Tom Cruise. But that's on at the Towering Inferno, my least favourite cinema anywhere... Quite interested to see The Quartet, the latest British movie aimed at ahem...the Silver pound. And definitely Les Miserables, which opens next week at the Gros. We're having a movie night in instead, wean studies Artificial Intelligence so Santa brought her the classic Blade Runner. Then trusty Goodfellas on tv later.... ;D

Wean skipped along to Hobbit nonsense with boyf last night.
Tells me she desperately tried to fall asleep just to make the time pass quicker.
Resist, Westie, resist!
Meanwhile her ma enjoyed a great double bill on telly; Donnie Brasco then The Fly. And no Towering Inferno anxiety ;D Win;win.

We got wan of them Apple TV gizmos a couple of months ago, we now subscribe to Netflix on it. Not the most up to date movie wise, but watch as much from the huge library fur six quid isn't to bad
Well impressed by quality of service too, no buffering or loading issues, our broadband is only running about 6Mb too, on average

We just got a Roku (like the Apple tv thing) and subscribed to Netflix and then the freebies Hulu and Crackle. I really love the tv series on Netflix. 4 or 5 seasons of a program. I'm enjoying it. Also no buffering issues.

Netflix sounds pretty interesting! I guess the downside is you're tempted to watch movies a go-go, into the wee sma' 'oors. Well I would be, anyway! Though I do like the social aspect of being in a cinema, somehow. Though increasingly having issues with the volume on most films... So, what've you seen, Nota?

The reviews are uniformly good for Les Mis so a definite for me at our Groovy Grosvenor next weekend.
I've not seen the theatre production, I must be the only person in the Western World that hasnae! Guess I'll go to it with fresh ears then... ;D
I do kinda wish we had better touring theatre in Scotland though, it seems like the best stuff's concentrated in Londinium, with severe prices to match.
Though many a performer's been levelled by a Glasgow audience:
Billy Connolly told the story of Bernie and Mike Winters who were popular from the 1950s to the 1970s. One night in Glasgow, Bernie opened the show. After five minutes, his brother appeared. ‘Christ!’ cried a voice. ‘There’s two of them!’
and
A story has been told that apparently an elderly English songstress was warbling though her repertoire to the jeers and catcalls of the audience. Suddenly a guy jumped up in the stalls turned to the crowd and shouted
“C’mon! Give the auld cow a chance!”
The lady looked down at him then up at the rest of the audience and proclaimed “At least there is one gentleman in here tonight”
;D

Well now. Took the weans out for tea then on to the Groovy Grosvenor for Django Unchained. Except Screen Two was sold out. So Les Mis at Screen One it was. And what a revelation that was ;D I can't remember when I was last so affected by a movie. Rendered helpless, actually.. trying (failing) to keep in the great heaving sobs for fear of embarrassing the weans...and myself It's just... brilliant. Fantastic casting, and amazing actorly talent all round. Like The Artist where you stop noticing it's silent after the first few minutes, the same with Les Mis with the 'singing'. Couldn't recommend it more highly, specially if like me, you've not seen the stage production and don't know the story. I suspect it'll deservedly sweep the boards at the Oscars next month.
