All best to grandson, it's about time we celebrated the achievements of our young people, who get such a bad press generally ;D
To my shame I've no idea where the Crimea actually is/was. But wishing him a safe transit through the middle east in such troubled times.

Wean's in Lahndahn tonight, getting to grips with the geography and researching best way to get to photo studio early-ish doors for her first assignment for Storm. Sure don't envy her the rush hour traffic... She's also been offered another PT job in a fab new family-run bar/restaurant in Byres, starts Friday night. Fantastic run of luck...but best of all she can't wait to get back to Year 3 @ GlasgowUni. Happy days ;D Ach. Spoke too soon Just had to phone wean who's on the overnight bus from London, to tell her our much loved Aunt Jean's died very suddenly. Lovely Jean, age 84, was one of those feisty stalwart Scottish women who are generous and caring to a fault. Even after retiring from full time work, the next 20+ years were spent visiting vulnerable people, driving them to hospital and GP appointments, doing their shopping, the flowers in her church and volunteering at the WRVS cafe in Gartnavel Hospital. She had the spirit and lust for life of a 20 year old, got online about ten years back, having learned how to work a computer, and regularly kept the family -spread all over the globe- entertained with jokes and photographs. Applause for a life well-lived.

On his first trip to Ukraine he had 2 conferences with a week between. He decided to have break in the Carpathian Mountains at place called Ivano_Frankivsk.
On reaching his hotel at reception after establishing that they had a mutual language. The receptionist said "We dont get many Australians here" Not surprising its a million miles from any tourist route. They tried Ukrainian.. Nope; Russian,,,, Nope: German..... better; English ........ Bingo. About 3 people involved but wonderful in a hotel in the Carpathian Mountains.
BTW The Carpathia was the first ship to reach the survivors of the Titanic
