Thanks Guys for all your advice on my last event it has been a lot of help. I'm having another night at the Grosvenor on the 16th and this time i have invited folk from the Starter Packs Magpie Charity in Govan, These guys really need your help they provide basic items for people who have been homeless and are moving into a flat. At the moment they are running out of things like crockery, cutlery, bedding, curtains, toiletries etc. I'm currently volunteering with them doing practical work like making the starter packs up and also trying my hardest to source stuff for them and raise awareness of what they do. I seem to be hitting many brick walls as i have come accross the attitude that these people have in some way brought their situation on themselves or are all drug addicts etc, this is just not the case as many of the clients are fleeing violence, marriage/family breakdowns or with the current economical climate have found themselves in a situation that they never thought they would be in. If anyone here can help these guys out by donating unwanted goods it would be very much appreciated. They have a small van that can pick stuff up Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm. I'm planning on doing some fundraising next year to try and get the charity a bigger van and raise some money for other things that they need anyone who woud like to get involved are more than welcome and any suggestions you have on how to go about raising funds etc please tell me as i need all the help i can get on this. Have you spoken to Jinty yet? Ask her about using the lane for a stalls etc, I can speak to her and Colin and VW will probably all agree, there are stalls during the W/End Festival, so might be worth it for you?

Hi Bormes, I'll send Jinty a message is she on here?. Thanks for all your advice. There was talk at one point of the G1 group running a Sunday market on Ashton Lane but nothing has been mentioned since. It is a really good idea for everyone including the businesses on Ashton Lane if it were to bring new custom to the area. Lynne, you should speak to Magpie about holding your events in the gallery, it is quite small but it is a nice wee space and they would take some of your jewellery to sell too. All they ask is for 10% of the sale price unlike other places who want to double the price of sale or return items. I forgot to mention, Magpie recycle materials and clothing that can't be sold in the shop or donated to people and turn them into bags and clothing and sell them in aid of the Charity. x

I'm really sorry Squinty. Blame it on my lack of experience as I don't post on forums this is the only one i really use. I tried hidden Glasgow forums but some people were a bit rude. sorry

Hidden Glasgow can be a bit cliquey, t'is true, if you get to know the right people it's ok.

Hidden Glasgow can be a bit cliquey, t'is true, if you get to know the right people it's ok. Hidden Glasgow deserves a medal; it is a brilliant, brillant website. A great resource, and a really heartwarming example of a great & legitimate use of the internet by ordinary folks. Sterling work.

I would disagree, I know of two people who were bullied and for one of them it was their first forum, the other poster came in on their behalf and was banned for almost exposing Dex, who was the main bully. mgd, the poster is a senior police officer for many years and I met her and like me and a number of others she feels strongly that they are a clique also.

I hope to see some of you coming along on Thursday, I shall be there with my big red nose and swollen glands due to this awful cold I have;-( I have the final update on who will be there.
The Magpie Tribe(Charity) With bags, clothing and vintage goods.
Kittie Crystal Jewellery - Handmade costume jewellery
Micheal - Sterling silver jewellery made in Scotland
Ballachuilish(?) Slate - A selection of table wear handmade (Very reasonable prices)
Mens Jewellery By Iain
Bonbons & Buttercream - Cupcakes
Art by Sarah Rennie
And whoever the Grosvenor have asked to come along. I'm looking for a bloke to play Santa and collect some money for Magpie, as you're all aware Christmas is on it's way and we have loads of people with children on the client list for the charity. For example today i took a call about a young Mum with a 3 and a 4 yr old kiddies who the council/GHA have dumped in an empty flat, she has a job but has been off sick for some time so she is not entitled to any help and she has nothing. This is the type of people Magpie try their hardest to help out and I couldn't imagine being in that position especially at this time of year. I will be donating 10% of my takings for the evening to the charity and i hope people will be able to donate a wee pound or two too. Free glass of bubbly again courtesy of The Grosvenor Cafe. xxxx
