Ebola!!

Well, This virus is starting to look like the Spanish Flu of many years ago. It of course was nothing to do with Spain but it was a Haemorhagic fever, as is Ebola. As far as I know Spanish Flu was never explained which virus it was, therefore I just wonder if it could be Ebola returning? I have said from the beginning that there has not been proper Quarantine restrictions put out by Europe or the West. Possibly a bit late now? Hopefully it will be stopped but I would not hold my breath.

Seems to be cyclical, Bormes, like many viruses it seems to recur over time, in a slightly different form each time. We should probably remember that while, sadly, it does kill people, it doesn't kill everyone it touches. A bit like a flu virus, yes, in that the majority have the natural resistance to recover if infected.
Of course the red top tabloids in the UKE and elsewhere are having a field day with it, scaring the living daylights out of people.
The US survivalists have gone even more mental than usual: they're a-giving it stock up on provisions, radios and--of course--guns, so you can shoot anyone in the community that might HAVE IT. These people are fucking nuts.
Put in some kind of proportion though: flu kills tens of thousands world wide every year. As does HIV/Aids.
Ebola's not air-borne or water-borne. People are infected via being in close contact with the bodily secretions of victims: blood, saliva, urine/faeces. It's possible this happens before the victims show symptoms. I've also seen reports saying that the culture of washing victims by their families in preparation for burial has perhaps contributed to the spread of the virus. OH, those poor souls.
Surely all ports of entry need to establish the travel history of everyone coming through and where it includes potential areas of danger, isolate them until such times as they're proved clear of infection. Hardly difficult.

21 Day incubation and now a number of people are saying it can be airborne, like a sneeze from an infected person. In a animal testing zone one chimp from a different section caught it from an infected chimp, they are still trying to understand how. The survavalist culture in the USA and Canada is not really what I was thinking of, they have their own agenda and probably want it to happen so that they can start again!! I just feel and have felt since the start that this has NOT been dealt with properly. I was briefed about this many, years ago as every now and then different viruses with similar affects but defferent names appear in parts of Africa, the Congo being the place I was told about and back then many Doctors thought it was the locals eating wild game and contracting viruses from carcuses of chimps from the bush. Bush food I think they called then?

Hardly difficult. Maybe even easier if folk are checked ( and unless one is exhibiting symptoms its more or less futile) before they get on transport out of the affected countries. The three main affected countries in west Africa do not have direct flight links into the UK, determining the origins of travellers into the UK and how long ago they wre in an affected country is nigh on impossible

The three main affected countries in west Africa do not have direct flight links into the UK, determining the origins of travellers into the UK and how long ago they wre in an affected country is nigh on impossible Let's get real and keep a bit or proportion. Probably right to expect a few Ebola carriers have travelled further afield, yes? Knowingly or unknowingly. So there might well be the odd case outwith affected parts of Africa and we've seen such today in Germany, the US and the UK. I don't really care how the virus has arisen, whether from eating bush food or whatever. People do what they have to do. Likewise the origin of aids/HIV. Let's just find an effective cure and keep everyone as safe as we can. And above all, don't cave into the redtop panic. Remember bird-flu and how we were all about to die of that? Uhuh.
