Correct on both counts, Nota! We had our first holiday in Scotland for umpteen years: a few days at the splendid Victorian pile that's the Marine in North Berwick with the most fantastic views of the Firth of Forth, all the way to the East Neuk of Fife. Then a wee trip to East Fortune today to the Museum of Flight. My late father was in the RAF in WW2 and worked for BEA/BA until he retired in 1983. It was the dream of the whole family to fly on Concorde, or Speedbird, as BA folks called it, at some point, on his concessionary travel. Sadly my dad died not long after retiring so none of us stepped onboard until today. What a thrill it was to be on that beautiful aeroplane. Ms Rolo remarked what a shame it is that we've gone retrograde, having invented such a brilliant machine. She was amazed how small it was inside compared to the Dreamliner she got home from Florida yet that took twice the time to cross the Atlantic! Attachments:

Here's the view from Speedbird Control. Just above that famed 'droop-snoot' as the Scots BA fraternity called it... Attachments:

Indeed, Concorde was always an ambition of mine to fly on, ever since being a wee boy. I was devastated at around 10 when I found out I couldn't be a pilot due to ma glasses. When me n mrs nota got to the stage of being able to afford to really indulge ourselves, we wanted to travel the Atlantic on concordec in one I reaction then sail ack on a Cunard liner. Unfortunately that ability came o late for Concorde but we have managed the Cunard liner bit. Anyways we'll get to east fortune one day and use our imagination too

Ach, Nota, I know that story well, it was the same for my wee brother. Having grown up in an aviation family (my dad used to have this radio that could listen in to ATC) he too applied at 17 for pilot training but the same, failed on eyesight. I bought him a flying lesson for his 21st though. Small plane out of Glasgow over the Western Isles and Loch Lomond, that he piloted back in to land. Mr Rolo flies simulators and would love a bash on the real thing. My stepson, by very odd coincidink, is indeed the helicopter pilot on another thread Mr R and I have both been lucky as hell and have travelled the globe for work. For the both of us, the sheer thrill of air travel's never worn off. Except possibly the odd Ryanair to Girona. Thank eff for Jet2 who now takes us 'home'...

Same here we love air travel, even the naff bit of having the airport rigmarole is great, there's always a buzz about airport lounges and and people watching in airports. My uncle was in the RAF, he done the full wack of years until he couldn't stay any longer, his sat few years was as a recruitment officer in glasgow, the amount of aircrew applicants he had that passed very test apart from eyesight was phnominal, especially as legally you can fly if you have glasses, its just difficult to get into the RAF or a major airline to get the training done.......ach well shuts furme will no' go by me as ma grannie used tae say

I was on Concorde at Duxford air museum in England
Mate of my daughter is a Captain with a regional airline flying SAAB 340s.
She had her pilots licence before she was old enough to get her drivers licence. Her Grandfather was a RAAF Beaufighter pilot and she got the flying bug from him and was taught to fly by him in her early teens

Anyways we'll get to east fortune one day and use our imagination tooI think you'd really appreciate a visit there, Nota. It's a bona fide former RAF airfield, used in WW2, with most of the barracks and hangars intact, most of which modified to house the collection of military and civil aircraft. Me and Mr R only went the once before, about 15 years ago and the changes since are amazing, such has been the investment in the museum. In all honesty, I found the military hangar quite difficult. It houses warplanes/fighters from the 20th century, such as a Spitfire, a Mig, a Tornado, and a few 'crates' that you'd find it hard to believe were ever remotely capable of flight. Alongside these, the weapons they carried are on display, very hard to look at. And looking inside the cockpits, you can barely believe the conditions the pilots had to bear. Forgive me for failing Jingoism 101.

... Second photie is Concorde, did you go and see it at the east fortune museum? You're a very clever Nota - I just decided it was an airyplane and thought Rolo was telling us she'd joined the Mile High Club. Oops. I'm a meringue again.
