You have a wonderful set of memoriesOz, fantastic. Fairly posh too, Buchanan Arms in Drymen!! Our farm was on the left just over the bridge on the river Endrick just before you turned left into Drymen! The mural painted about Tam O Shanter was taken down from the bar when you did the Curlers up and is now up in sections in Oram Mor, which was in your time the church at the junction of Byres Rd and Great Western Rd, opposite what used to be Stakis's Grosvenor Hotel. I opened an all night Coffee Stall opposite there outside the Botanic Gardens for years and had a supply of students, drunks, workers of ALL kinds every night come hail or snow!! Many stories from that place!!

Not really Bormes just the odd flash. The Rogano, I was assured I was on a winner if i took a certain young lady there. (for the glee of the morally uptight I failed miserably ) However met a gorgeous brunette a few weeks later at QM and took her to Dinner Dance at Buchanan Arms, trying to impress!!! must have succeeded coz we are still together, was only there 2 or 3 times, The Curlers Im afraid is only a name now all I remember was it had a bow window in Tassie Oak with small bullion panes of glass and a woman publican who owned a few pubs. One of the barmaids in the 4 Feathers for a while was a Sydneysider. loved hearing her accent. The Moorings was a pleasant drive with in-laws babysitting. Will have a look on Google Earth for your farm. Coffee stall would have been hard work bet there were lots of characters hanging around there PS Had a look at google earth, your farm is in a great neck of woods. Also looked at Buchanan Arms. Doesnt ring a bell Could it have been the Clachan?? Or maybe Buchanan Arms has been done up in last 50 years (shit!!!! 50 bloody years geeeeeeee)

Big extensions on Buchanan Arms! We still shoot at our Farm, we sold the ground and the ripairian rights on the river Endrick but kept the shooting rights so we do our Clay Pigeon stuff there Nota has even been there to shoot with some of his pals!!!!!!!! In fact we are going out there tomorrow with a young Major from 3 Para whom I ran a course for last year on the Glock Pistol. Great ground, we get Geese in by late this month, you are better skinning them than plucking them as there is so much fat it is better cooking in a slow cooker with all the berries from the area.

I wonder if it's the one that's now Dram just across from the Bowling Club? Only others I can think of are the Halt and the Arlington, both still exist, although Halt's had a makeover. Anyway, Ms R was in Dram last night with pals, how odd, eh? HorseShoe is still there and unchanged. Jewel in the Crown, indeed. Curlers has had another makeover recently but the bow windows are still there, you'll be glad to know! And we do have Sunday lunch there occasionally. They've opened up the fireplaces, which is lovely. I pass by it every other day.

Many stories from that place!! Buchanan Arms was a total treat and very much the place to impress a young lady, I was taken there a couple of times in my late teens (in my date's dad's borrowed car!...) and sometimes to the Winnock too. Oran Mor is my favourite local. It's a thing of beauty, such a creative and wonderfully done interior with the muriel and Alasdair Gray's handprinted scenes in the auditorium. Had a fun night there this week, for the author Ian Rankin's latest book launch. Bormes' coffee stall was THE place to end our student nights out, you know Of course then the bars weren't open till 4am so we'd leave the QM at midnight or something, head to someone's flat with a carryout and then up to the stall on the way home to our flats (mine at that time was on Alfred Terrace, a mere stagger up Gt Western.) Bormes, you are a MINE of information, ever thought of writing a book about the West End and the huge part you've played in it over the years? Though I'd imagine you'd have to change quite a few names in the process, LOL LOL LOL!

Gees now you are testing my memory could be name the Four Feathers is wrong
I seem to remember I parked my car in either Lynedoch Street or Woodlands Gate (both just looked at on Google Earth) then on Woodlands road turned left and crossed diagonally. The pub was in the middle of a Block. Looking at "Street View" there is a derelict pub behind a bus shelter that says "Woodland Road" that could be it.
Of course I could be completely mixed up and am thinking of the Fort Street Tavern in Fort Street Auckland which served the most fantastic deep fried oysters in batter with chips and salad, but def not the Rag & Famish (aka shag & vanish) in North Sydney

Mentally crossing from Lynedoch over into Woodlands Rd, turning left in ma heid, past the garage. It has to be The Halt, Oz. It's been derelict for a good couple of years and yeah, there's a bus stop right in front. It's now had a revamp and is called some hipster name or other. Micro-brewery shit. Stripped out all the lovely wood (mini Horseshoe shape bar) and replaced it with modern chrome and relentlessly grey decor. All the better to be depressed in while paying £4.50 for a pint of crap. OOOOH I'm in a right mood tonight. Can you tell?

Windows look right from memory as I say a long time ago. I remember wood panelling was a lovely old pub. I dont think I was in Public Bar, not done here old chap not with the ladies. The ladies usually being May comptometer and Betsy Typist abs well as any WAGS. Another pub with mrs Oz's friends was the Eglington Arms at Eaglesham

The Eg's still there as far as I know. Rural pub life's pretty much died a death anyway, Oz, for those not living within staggering distance-- given the new drink driving rules. Not that I'm endorsing drinking under the affluence of incohol but rules now state that even a half pint or a wee tiny measure of spirits is over the limit. And even with such stringency, you're much more likely to die, statistically, from being a driver or pedestrian than you are from a terrorist act. But hey, that fact doesn't sell papers or keep folks glued to 24/7 news.

Gees I thought ours were bad ! 3 Standard drinks (eg Small Scotch)in first hour then one an hour will keep you on or about the limit which is .05 of something or other.
While I dont like it I appreciate the necessity of it and accept it as necessary.(Gives me a good excuse not to drink)
I found the Eglington Arms clientelle a bit too hoity toity for my liking(uncouth Colonial) though I loved the ambience.
