Economic downturn's being used as an excuse now don't you think? If Capital Shopping Centres really wanted to keep the place open they'd come up with a constructive idea. Meantime here's one; Bung an extra £1 on the car parking charge and ring fence that cash into keeping the museum open. Oh...and make it £2 for 4 x 4s. That alone'd bring in tens, maybe hundreds of thousands a year. And the folk who flock to Braehead in huge numbers have money to spend, make no mistake about it.

Well said that wummin, that's a great idea. Trouble being, this city has been so comprehensively robbed of its identity that folk just do not give a shit about identity or history any more. I was surprised and unsurprised at the crowd that gathered for the launch of the Duncan. ozneil, you would be shocked at how little a part the river plays in the life of this city, when it should be a vital artery of it.

Where's all its stuff going to go? The new 'Transport Museum'? Meanwhile freeing up the current space at the back of Braehead for even more retail outlets? Oh yes, I think we'll not be surprised at that particular outcome.

Good riddance, it was a dreadful wee museum. It will be much better housed in the new Transport museum which will also be on the banks of the Clyde and its contents displayed as part of a larger. more comprehensive and meaningful display

How dae yoo define a 4x4? Fur example teh Audi A6 estrate kin be had wae 4 wheel drive, its smaller than the Audi SUV teh Q7 but didnae sit as high up Ur whutaboot teh Volvo XC60 yoo kin get it in 2x2 yr 4x4 - yoo cannae tell ra difference frae ra ootside Much better tae charge folk wae older cars merr and easier tae

My wife drove a little Subaru Imprezza 4 x 4 shopping trolley for years while I dove a big six cylinder 4 litre Ford Falcon. I wonder which had the biggest carbon foot print (howz ra jargon folks) now I drive a little Subaru Forester 4 x 4 soft roader. It burns a lot less fossilised forests than my Falcon .

Here a Vauxhall Zafira ( a small people carrier based on the astra) the 1800cc (petrol)version is a bigger polluter than the BMW X5 3000cc diesel. The biggest con is teh likes of teh Lexus Hybrids, big engined petrol cars wae an electric engine that cuts in noo and again - no very cheap tae run and when running on petrol engine is quite a polluter too. Apparently teh greenest cars on the planet, when judged from build to scrappping and recycling are Landrover defenders and Jeep wranglers, both 4x4s

This is terrible news, my great grandfather was the fist mate on the Waverly that went down in dunkirk and he was also 1st mate on the Jeanie Deans, I have old photos and stuff that i was going to donate to clydebuilt as i thought they would of been of interest. I'll need to take my great aunt along before it is closed, she is 91 this year and still has loads of her fathers stuff from when he was on the puffers. Maybe the new Transport museum will be interested in them.

Cat, What you have is fantastic, I suggest if you donate your 'photos etc you should copy everything and I would even suggest, loaning them rather than donating them, as sometimes museum etc, have so much stuff many items are forgotten and even lost. Your heart is in the right place though.
