Fair bit of concern going on about this; www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-21339223Three attacks in a small area of the WE in the last ten days, not late at night either; all between 4 and 7pm. So, lovely West End gals hereabouts, PLEASE take extra care and guys, please make sure your womenfolks know. Get this guy's description out on your social networks for starters. I spotted hundreds of blokes last evening fitting the pretty vague description so a photofit's needed now. Wean was going round boyf's flat earlier, near one of the streets mentioned. Mr R took her in the car instead of her having to walk from the bus stop, and waited till boyf met her at the close door. Noticed the strong beat police patrols in the area. This cowardly scumbag needs lifted and pronto. They've probably already got him on CCTV so let's see his picture NOW, Strathclyde Polis!

For some reason? The polis are reluctant to put out a photo of scum like this, perhaps the fear of like looking punters being strung up from lamposts is why?? !!

I'd hope there'll be CCTV captures on this pretty soon. Twitter's a brilliant resource for this, too. Last night I tweeted the description to 10 West End friends with loads of contacts, male and female, and overnight their retweets had reached about 15,000 others. Anything that helps warn girls and women in the area has to be good. Guy sounds like a real psycho, three attacks in ten days..

Seems like it has been a wee bit overplayed by the media!! Not totally certain just yet but I suspect it may not be sexual attacks at all, it may prove to be a disturbed young man, not a rapist but touching girls on the backside . Still TOTALLY wrong but thankfully not a rapist however girls keep your guard up BE AWARE !!

It wasn't reported as 'rape', Bormes. 'Sex attack' covers a whole range of other behaviour though, much of it barely short of rape and all of it distressing with long lasting consequences for the woman. I'm guessing you've heard more details from 'sources' This guy still needs lifted, pronto--and yeah, like you say, women need to be aware he's out there. The reason I say this is that many years ago, there was a similar spate of attacks in the same small West End area. A guy was hanging around the lanes and paths near QM Union over a period of weeks and committing so-called 'sex attacks' on female students. I was on the QM board at the time--in my final year at Uni--and reported him, as did other colleagues. I pitched up at Partick Police station at their request to give a description of the guy. As it happens this person was quite distinctive at that time.. One day a bit later I saw him cycling on Gt Western and called the polis from a payphone--- but they didn't get him. About a week later, a girl was raped on one of the paths. Next, Partick polis asked me and others who had seen him or been 'touched' by him to pick him out on an ID parade. Now forgive my totally black humour here, but the parade consisted of a bunch of waiters from the Koh I Noor and other Gibson St restaurants and yer man towered above them all. At that time there were no screens separating the witness from the guys; you had to step forward and tap anyone you recognised on the shoulder. I remember how scared I was that he knew my face now and how worrying it would be if he wasn't arrested. Anyways, a few months later I was cited as a witness at the High Court. Had to verify the accused in the dock was the person I'd reported as hanging around. I wasn't present for the rape victim's evidence, obviously but he was convicted and went to jail. A few years later I saw him again--and he saw me-- on Gt Western. I think I ducked into a shop or something... Fast forward 35-odd years. A young student's in Vodka Wodka with a bunch of boys and girls. In the crush, the girl's privacy, shall we say, is invaded by a stranger. She tells the bouncers who call the polis. Guy's made a run for it down the lane at this point. She's asked to go home and change and take the clothes she was wearing into Partick Polis station that night for DNA testing. Obviously the guy wasn't caught for this offence. The polis phoned the girl to ask would she like her clothing back. You can probably hazard a guess as to the answer. So my point is that what starts as one thing can escalate into another as the guy gets bolder. It's mistaken, I think, to downplay a 'sex attack' for that reason.
Sure some sleazebag guys are just trying it on and may not be truly 'dangerous' but all 'sex attacks' need reporting--- if at the very least to stop the same--or worse-- happening to anyone else.
You'll have guessed how strongly I feel about it all by now, my friends. And given your mention of stringing em to the lampposts I know you do too, Bormes.

Yer right, the thing is catching him, then working out what suitable punishment/treatment/lynching is needed.

I had the good luck one night to catch a man dragging a young girl into Botanical Gardens at the gate on Botanical Crescent, I chased him and caught him, holding him until the Police arrived. She was the very pregnant wife of a well known Westender who frequents the Chip. Anyway the Police were not in the least gentle with him when he was put into the van, in fact I seem to remember he was handcuffed behind his back and unceremoniously propelled into the rear of the Police van. Great. It turned out he was charged with several rapes and sexual assaults. He was the chef in the Westend Hilton. He was sentenced to eight years. 6'2" tall red blond hair slim 28 years old, I saw him recently in the Westend again and he can only have been released in the last 3 years. I pointed him out to our mutual friend. He has not recognised me I think, yet I gave evidence at the high court in Glasgow. Now that I am writing about this, were you not at the same trial? We , Ghislaine and I in the witnesses room and he changed his plea to guilty on advice from his QC. Perhaps not but we can chat about him when we meet for that wee dram we keep going to have with Westy !!

Not the same guy, no, Bormes. Good to know some folks are still up for intervening when a person needs help...these guys aye pick on those physically weaker than themselves but a heavily pregnant woman? That's the outer limit of despicable. This doesn't and never has, had anything to do with how a woman's dressed, or 'feminism' or any other convenient media excuse. Saddest thing about this thread's our parallel experience over 35 years to the present. Creeps are everywhere, but stranger rape's still rare. All you can really do is try and make folks aware, and take best care of each other out and about

Yer right, the thing is catching him, then working out what suitable punishment/treatment/lynching is needed. A 36 year old male (not worthy of the term 'man'), was arrested today for the three assaults on women in the West End I've mentioned on this thread. Like I predicted a few weeks ago, he's been emboldened by seemingly getting away with the first three and gone on the attack for the fourth time only the other day. But CCTV @ St Enoch tube station's caught him. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-21635957What punishment would you recommend, guys?

The worst of it is, one nasty individual might have been taken off the streets tonight but there's only too many fucking creeps still out there.
I've talked to many male friends about the issue over the years, and to a man (yes, a man) they're mortified and ashamed that fellow males behave this way.
From harrassment and cat calls, to flashing, touching, sex assault and violent rape, it's all one on the spectrum of utter disrespect for women and girls.
We need to be teaching our girls to defend themselves whether physically or verbally. These so called 'males' are generally pathetic cowards. Take them on, scared as you are gals-- hearts thumping and all, but trust me, they'll be so fucking wrongfooted they'll shit themselves.
Been there, done that.

Well if this one is found guilty, it would suggest he is a danger to women for life and as such he should have a life sentence, or if he was willing to undergo some sort of chemical castration, or whatever the proper term is, then I would allow that with a gradual reintro to society, but as part of his eventual release he would have to be supervised regularly to check his chemical balance. I am told this system is workable in some countries and is very successful. However if that is not available, definitely life sentence. Why should it not be?

It's June and this case went to trial yesterday. Read it and weep. I did. (I make no excuse for posting it, hard to read as it is, because this is THE REALITY of violent sex attacks.) I look at the picture of what to me looks like a healthy, clean, good-looking young man. What the f*ck goes on? Whose son is he? www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-glasgow-west-22770569I was terribly struck by this attack when it happened, as the girl was a 19 year old student, walking where my and countless other 19 year old students live their daily lives. Mine's currently with mates 10 yards from where this happened... With any luck, this young girl will find the strength to not let this affect the rest of her life and her view of men: but what a superhuman effort that's going to take. I can only feel for her, the way I would my own. What will he get, 10 years? 7? Out in half, his serious problems untreated? Great.

Well he IS a danger to women and I see no point in his release for at least fifty years.
