Another outstanding Transatlantic Sessions at Celtic Connections tonight ;D Always the fastest selling show of the year, tonight the peerless Jerry Douglas with cohorts Bruce Molsky, Mary Chapin Carpenter v Aly Bain, Phil Cunningham, Mike McGoldrick, John McCusker and of course Festival Director Donald Shaw. Astonishing meld of cajun, Louisiana and Carolina with the best of Scotlands reels, jigs and laments... But blues artist Eric Bibb stole the show for me. He has to be the coolest guy on the planet. Live music sales are falling in most countries but not ours! Onwards to Roddy Hart tomorrow---best country/blues voice in Scotland...at 27. Think Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. Too much great music, too little time!

Young Teddy Thompson, son of Linda and Richard remarked half way through " I just noticed the Americans are on one side of the stage and the Scots on the other" to which Aly Bain, quick as a flash, intoned, deadpan, "Aye and that's just the way we like it" Not a dry seat in the house! Music's the universal language. Brings us together, no matter who, no matter where. It really is that simple

So, three weeks in, Celtic Connections drew to a close last night with Little Feat---and ticket sales of £1 million. 100,000+ tickets sold. In January, in Glasgow. ;D Fantastic to see so many out and about sharing the music and cheer, with benefits to our hotel and restaurant businesses. Plus we've 'sold' another huge tranche of Scottish talent to international promoters from 27 countries. This will be worth upwards of £2 million to the economy this year as our artists earn fees all over the world, side benefit being securing jobs in the supporting infrastructure; agents, managers, event managers, tour managers, crews, record producers and studios. Cue some pretty exhausted Glasgow music people--and some well deserved TOIL today. Worth it? Resounding YES to that! Our cultural industries will be a major contributor to an independent Scotland---taxes raised and paid in Scotland, not siphoned off to Westmonster

Cheers, Bormes! Hardly drawn breath for three weeks but...I've now moved swiftly on to the next 'export' opportunity. The Scottish Government have just invested a significant amount to showcase Scotland's music to hundreds of international promoters attending the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August. Forward-thinking, intelligent strategy, IMV, and I'm thrilled to bits that my company's been asked to help drive the process. The benefits to the artists, the music sector infrastructure and the economy will be significant I think though, we're not getting proportionate coverage in the UK media, despite considerable effort Did you know, for example, that Calvin Harris, from Dumfries, was the world's top songwriter in terms of sales in 2012? That a Glasgow band, Biffy Clyro, is at no 1 in the UK album chart this week? That the RSNO has just completed a ground-breaking tour of China?

First Well done Second you people (Scots) have one hell of a lot of goodwill in the former colonies ie USA Canada NZ & Oz . Of course you know this and are acting on it. We had that mob here, cant remember their name but they were terrible , using Celtic goodwill too make $$$ Good Scottish stuff out here would be very well received.

What mob might that've been, Oz? There are some truly terrible Irish Celtic tribute shows doing the rounds....was it one of them maybe? So much work's gone into genuine international exchange these past few years. We were delighted to welcome a very large contingent of Australian promoters and government reps to Glasgow last week. Australia will be our international partner at CC/Showcase in January 2014 and will be showcasing their best emerging artists here in exchange for promoting the Scots equivalent over by. That's a win:win in my book

Cant remember Rolo Celtic Something could have been Celebration ... were mostly Irish (or said they were) they appeared to be musically challenged.
We had a great night at the Opera House "Scotland the Brave" singers from the Queensland Opera, the Pymble Presbyterian Ladies College Choir and our old faithfulls the Manly Warringah Pipe Band.
Was a wonderful night though I dont think there was a Scot in the cast. There were certainly hundreds in the audience and they all appreciated it.

Spent today in meetings with Creative Scotland and British Council, next international foray's to New Zealand next week, the Scottish delegation taking musicians and bands out to showcase there. Hope to find a way to take up my invite to Brizzy in November, Oz. And two of my team head for Austin Texas this month for South By South West festival, showcasing Scottish bands-- courtesy Scottish Government investment. Forward thinking policies from our government
