Good luck rolo, you'll be fine. They're in Scotland, things'll take care of themselves. Gie it laldy, and enjoy! Well! Laldy was indeed given last night at the Chambers. What a NIGHT! ;D We had a great set from the 6th Years at Plockton Traditional Music School then onto mad dancing to John Carmichael's ceilidh band. Our fairly bewildered European colleagues from Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Catalonia, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Hungary, Serbia, Austria,Cyprus and Greece were invited to the dance floor for the Sargassian Circle, The Canadian Barn Dance, the St Bernards and culminating in an extremely messy Eightsome Reel. ;D Hahahahaaaaaaa, a'body was literally helpless with laughter, some could hardly draw breath but fortunately nobody died... ;D We had cooncil sangwidges and sausage rolls in the break (I'd asked them to cater a la Local Hero ceilidh style)... and plenty to drink. I swear we were all hobbling today at the conference, aches in muscles we never knew we had. Many delegates said early doors they'd woken up feeling better than they had in years. So far.........so good

They got a wee bottle of Irn Bru, a two pack of Shortie and a hideously tacky 'Scottish tea towel' in their goody bags, Nota. I'm just home after an even better night tonight, details to follow about a week next Tuesday.........(tireder than a tired thing, but high on happiness...)

And........relax. ;D What a few days it's been All the delegates commented on our warm Scottish welcome and the quality of the music showcases as well as the panel discussions on how best we Europeans can support and assist our musicians, composers and educators. The majority of delegates had never been to Glasgow before, so I was determined from Day One that they saw the very best we have to offer. So from the Chambers to the restored Victorian splendour of the Grand Central Hotel to the Old Fruitmarket, City Halls, the Royal Concert Hall I think they got our gist....and laid that hideous, antiquated media thing about Glasgow being a rough, violent place to rest. And one mental party on Saturday night at my place, Scottish Music Centre @ City Halls. Haggis pakora, hunners of wine and whisky and of course Razvan on piano, of which more in a bit.

So, a wee story about Razvan Luculescu.
A young musician, composer and conductor from Romania, who came to live in Scotland a few years back. He works in an admin job to support his young family who live here, while volunteering at my company one day a week plus also acting as conductor to local choirs and ensembles , all the while writing and performing his own music in whatever spare time he has left!
So ANYWAYS, the most amazing thing happened on Saturday night at our party for the delegates. I had just poured a whisky for an elderly white haired, white bearded delegate when he paused, listened and rushed to the piano. Fair dos' I thought, he's liking the playing!
Next thing, he lays a hand on Razvan's shoulder. R looks around and stops playing, then crumples a bit. I hadn't a clue what was going on so fired over---and it turns out that delegate had been Razvan's piano teacher in Romania 15 years ago.
They hadn't seen each other since and the teacher didn't know where R had ended up.
Coincidink or karma I know not what ;D ;D ;D

Here's another wan! ;D Mid party on Saturday night, some German colleagues were keen to experience traditional Scottish fish'n'chips, so our Jamie took a bunch of them Pied Piper style to the nearest 'traditional' chippie down at Gallowgate/Saltmarket. As they ordered, the Scots/Italian proprietor enquired where they were from. 'Germany' they chorused. Next thing, he quits frying and says, 'I can't speak German but I can SING in German' .....then launches-in the most amazing tenor voice- into Wagner's "Ring Cycle" completely a capella. Cue stunned visitors, who could barely lift their jaws from the floor. A major highlight for em, they thought at first we'd 'organised' it somehow, but we hadnae! It could only happen in Glasgow! Here's Luigi now... www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfuI6V30YLs

Story number 3 ;D So on Sunday evening the northern Europeans who were due to leave Monday morning were told-- alas! ---of a 24 hour strike by Lufthansa. They all rebooked into hotels for Monday night and our Jamie again shepherded them out for a night on the toon on Sunday (he's a one for the nightlife!...). Anyways, Pieter, from Belgium, was one of the stranded and pitched up to the bar they were all gathering in. In the course of the evening, J's flatmate, a tour manager/florist, pitches up and feels he's met Pieter before somehow. He finally remembers where: a few years ago he was tour managing a Glasgow band at a venue in Brussels. On dropping the band off outside the venue, he'd inadvertently driven down a one way st the wrong way...next up, flashing blue lights, armed cops leap out and pin him to the wall of the venue. (yes, I know! tough policing over by... ). Band member fires into the venue and gets the promoter who comes out and explains it's all a mistake, due to not being familiar with the street signs. Of course, it was Pieter-------- who was, like everyone else, floored by yet another strange coincidink. Ain't life strange and wonderful sometimes? ;D ;D ;D

Those are absolutely lovely stories and the happiest, most feel-good stuff I have heard in a while. Ta for posting them. And I'm so glad it was such a great success and very far indeed from anyone having heart attacks. I bet you're exhausted but all for a good cause.

well done Hope its a great success Im sure it will be. Any stuff being sent out here? Thanks Oz ;D and yeah there's a Scottish music contingent heading out to showcase @ AWME in Mel this November. Part of my job's to help select them but ultimately out of the 14 we've nominated here in Scotland, AWME will pick about a third of them. Their flight costs will be paid by Creative Scotland by way of investment. On Made in Scotland @ the Edinburgh Festival, 1000 international promoters are arriving come August, costs partly paid by our government. We give em sublime hospitality and invite em to open their chequebooks and invite our talent to their festivals/tours etc all over the wurreld..
