Lets just say the Daily Fail's not widely appreciated in Scotland so the shops are left with thousands of copies.... Anyway, I'm going the wood-burner route, that's the joy of having open chimneys in these old houses. Gonna double up on wood deliveries with upstairs neeb, who swears by his this past couple years. Wow! How lovely if you're able and allowed to do burning of things. Seems more "proper" heat than 'plug-in-wee-electric-fan-heater', somehow. Last person I knew with a wood-burning stove was in west Wales, so I didn't know it was possible in Glasgow. BUT, and here is what did make I laff, Rolo, you are planning your winter heat and it is yet only August. See us Glaswegians? See pessimists?

We had a gas fire in Bishopbriggs which we lit most evenings even in "summer". When the East wind blew all the brass monkies were running around looking for brazing jobs even in the height of "Summer"........ and they call it a temperate climate gees. Though in compensation we had great views of the Campsies from the bedrooms. Here they are doing back burning around this area and the air is heavy the the scent of burning eucalypts.

Experience over hope, Celyn Such a crap summer with so little natural heat/light from the sun, all our houses are that wee bit colder going into the winter.. I kinda expect again this winter a huge number of Scots'll be toiling to keep warm, it's particularly bad for those who've no option but to try and heat their homes during the day as well. The UK regulations on cold weather payments need revisited if you ask me--they compare the much warmer south with the extreme north and that's frankly bonkers. If I was first minister I'd insist on a winter week in the sun for all citizens and free slankets all year round. That'd save a fortune in NHS bills!

daylight saving is here!!!! Confusion reigns in border towns of Coolangatta (QLD) and Tweed Heads (NSW) In Queensland to left of marker its 11am in New South Wales to right of marker its noon. People have always to state whether NSW or QLD time when making appointments. But It gets worse!!! At Coolangatta airport planes take an hour to get from terminal to runway!!! terminal is in Qld and runway is in NSW on the other hand people can and do celebrate new year twice

Well for me, time stood still in the week me and mine spent at Coolangatta. Absolute paradise.
Spent our days on the beach right next to our apartments, it was my call to gather everyone in mid-afternoon and get us all in the vans to drive to the evening's gig.
What a bloody effort that was.

Oooh! yes that looks like it although it looks a little more built up, Oz
I think we stayed in the building far left. It was right next to the sea wall that photo's taken from. It was made of big rocks, I remember.
It was an apart-hotel, great big rooms with open plan tat and sea views. Parakeets from the nearby bird reserve used to land on the balcony.
