Rolo Rote
Mrs Oz has dark hair and dark eyes, Her Dads Mums family is from Looe in Cornwall.
During a family trip to Paris a guy came racing up to us and asked something in very rapid French. Mrs Oz can speak French but not at that speed so she said "Sorry Im not from France and dont speak French well" The guy took a step back gave a half bow said something and then vanished into the crowd leaving Mrs Oz blushing with her mouth hanging open and staring after him. Of course we all clamoured "what the hell did he say?" Apparently he had said "Madame I am devasted you are not French Your French is magnificent"

The 'gut'feeling's been there for nearly 30 years though.........

It's how you feel, I feel Scottish, many people come to the UK who are for example Muslim, they are always Muslims who happens to live in the UK, they never consider themselves English or British so it can be a feeling rather than a place of birth that allows one to feel they are of a particular country. I also think that living memory is where most people think of themselves coming from and give their allegiance to that country, apart from most Muslims that is. I often wonder if being a Roman Catholic helped Kennedy go into Vietnam when there was NO need at all! apart of course that his family company made Millions from the resulting war and the RC Church also made Millions as they had a huge percentage in General Motors who made untold Millions also from the war.

I never felt Scottish let alone British although when I got married the idea was we would stay in UK permanently. That doesnt mean to say Im not proud of my Scottish heritage. It took about 2 years to convince Mrs Oz to give Oz a try. She fitted in immediately and is fully Australianised (supports Oz in any sports match against Scotland) I still support Scotland in any fixture Australia or NZ is not playing

Sometimes Mexican kids who are brought here by parents when they are very small grow up to feel American. It's always heartbreaking when they discover they are not.

We have had 2 guys, at least, who have been here since young kids deported.
The first was ascots sex offender in 40s had been here since 3 but parents never naturalised nor did he. He was given $1200 and deported after prison sentence, no idea what happened to him
The second was a Serbian been here almost whole life a serial criminal he was given cash and deported to Serbia. He couldnt speak a word of Serbian and turned up at Australian Embassy after several months, starving and very ill. We showed compassion and brought him back. Bet he will never commit another crime.

Just for a bit of balance, this week I've been one of 150,000 who have signed a petition to keep this young woman in the UKE. Let's keep a bit of perspective here, shall we? YES, every country has instances of undesirables seeking asylum, that's a given. But we need to take care in how we sift the worthy from the unworthy, do we not? Yashika and her family have done no wrong here in the UKE since they arrived. They present no threat and indeed are more likely to benefit us all by being here than by being deported. It seems to me our Immigration Dept tend to only hit on the VERY EASY TARGETS. Well, make your own mind up. This young girl, only 18, forced out of the UKE tomorrow. NOT IN MY NAME. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/fight-for-yashika-student-set-to-be-deported-alone-to-mauritius-on-mothers-day-9223219.htmlThat is all.

Something entirely different
A refugee's story one that came here through UN.
An Iranian lady
BTW The founder of Community Commerce is a European Jew whose family survived the Holocaust and who came here as refugees

I couldnt decide which story was best so I did this one as well
Another Iranian lady
These people are genuine refugees who really needed our help not economic refugees that can pay up to $10,000 to people smugglers to jump queue
