At Sydney airport at arrivals you aare most likely to be greeted with People in yellow jackets Tourist volunteers who are there to help bewildered tourists. On arrival here the plane is sprayed for bugs, A Pom was assured by the Ozzie guy in the adjoining seat they only did this in flights from UK I take it the bewildered tourists are those who land at Sydney, thinking they were on a plane to Tokyo?

Shirley all a terrorist has to do is switch their mobile phone on at the opportune time and that'll interfere with the plane's systems and bring out down no probs at all.

... Once I had to go through a metal detector at a regional airport. On going through I realised it wasnt plugged in!!!! I asked the guy why not and he said it kept blowing airport fuses but it looked good so why not use it besides it kept "the bosses" happy. Once upon a time on a school trip, trying to board plane at Zürich, the metal detector thingwie really took against this particular girl in our group. Eventually, they decided it might be freaking out about the metallic wrapper on a large Toblerone bar, and said just to go through anyway. So, happy result, except that it really is not possible that she was the only person ever to take chocolate home from Switzerland, is it? So the stupid thing was basically not working well enough (and I suppose they probably reasoned that this bunch of Scottish schoolkids and teachers might not be the most likely terrorist threat). You'd have thought the technology would have improved by now, but it seems not. Edited to add: the airport also had blokes with guns and a bloody TANK. Wow. It might have made perfect sense and probably did, but it was a bit freaky, as it was the first time I had seen such things. Hahaha aHAAA! Toblerone availability at airports throughout the globe was not lost on me in Zurich the other week For the first time ever, I bought one. It had to be done. Fortunately said contraband was not subject to security scrutiny--- unlike my sandals.

First thing, There are explosives out there that are very easily made to look like a totally innocent item. Okey dokey. So how come my laptop and ipad weren't subject to scrutiny at Zurich when my completely innocent sandals were? Come on, do they LOOK like they have semtex built into the heel or sole? Really? Next we'll be told we can't carry on a toothbrush for fear its handle's packed with explosives.... Attachments:

It's just BLOODY RIDICULOUS! You know what, if a mad mental person is determined to sneak explosives onto a plane, they'll find a way of doing it.. I'm a fairly slight person but still, in almost every airport, I get patted down as if I might just have explosives taped to ma boady....having to take ma sandals off for fear I'd hidden semtex in two wee flat bits of leather is just so stupid it's unbelievable. Maybe I look dangerous or something, LOL! The Mad B*st*rds rule, it would seem. Get them tae, I say, pathetic specimens of humanity that they are.

I suspect the powers that be know that fine well, and a lot of the "security" measures are there to make people feel that "something is being done". That being said, your sandals really don't look exactly full of hiding places for Bad Things That Go Bang.

You are quite correct Oz, PROFILING IS THE WAY!! However that is done discreetly so as not to cause offence to islamic people, which I think is crazy. If Islamic nutters are bombing then the majority of people searched, even all of them should be Islamic, surely?

Aye ah ken that, profiling is not how they look. It is a background check and information check. Etc!!!!
